All i can say is, try to make conversation with the person, see if there's anything you two both like and focus on those bits. Don't try to challenge or criticize what they're into that you don't like, because not everyone likes feeling like they have to justify what they like.
If the relation builds into a close one from that, well done. If not, then bad luck and try again with the next person you meet
