I can say i've had problems aranging characters. most of my problem was I wasnt thinking of them as 3D objects. esentaly they are. mosre or less you need to have a plain of view for the character and understand how it will sit from other angles, this way you can see things sticking out under or behind the front plane you see. some times its hard to arange a position as well and its more or less the same problem.
