Over the last 10 - 15 years the amount of shows that have been on per week has gone from alot to next to nothing.
First they took of the weekday stuff of of ABC,CBC,and CTV mornings and afternoons.
Then Fox weekday mornings went and soon after the afternoon shows where gone.
Then it was ABC,CBC, and CTV weekend mornings went up in smoke and just last fall FOX's saturday morning went of the air.
Finally on YTV on Saturday Nights when they showed all the anime shows there now showing old movies

I blame cartoon network... or something like that. I've never bothered with cable, but I think that (cable) has had an effect. I guess WB hasn't done anything good lately and maybe there hasn't been any anime the regular networks are willing to dish out the money for.
I've either bought the box set or downloaded it.
It's been a while since I've watched anything animated on television. I kinda realized this last Saturday when I turned on one of the telvisions where I worked and it was running a cartoon. It looked like some poor done CG American action cartoon where people where summoning beetlelike monsters out of tiny balls. Then it was Sonic.

You can blame a lot on the freakin' FCC. Some of those cartoons were very fun and addictive to watch, but had almost no educational value. Parents got butthurt because their children weren't learning anything(not the TV's problem. They shouldn't rely on the TV as a babysitter, anyway.)
I miss the good ol' days. Waking up to watching old Dragonball Z reruns, get home from school, watch Pokemon, and watch Digimon and the other greats on the weekends. It's a sad state of affairs when all you find at 7 a.m.(when I get home from work) and all there is to watch is church programming and the news. I come home stressed and wore out. I don't want to see how I'm going to Hell for being what I am, or how the world is progressively getting worse. I wanna watch someone get crushed by an anvil! I wanna watch someone get hit in the face with a skillet.
Honestly, Tom & Jerry. Where did they go? Butthurt, lazy Parents and the FCC lynched them both.
The last mutt standing.
The one and only, Cowboy from Hell.

I can show him what it feels like to die.

I can shoot the Devil right between the eyes.

Yeah...I miss those good shows. I loved watching the DBZ character beat the crap outta each other, and pokemon was a good time killer, and digimon's always been great. For instance, unlike pokemon, digimon speak the same language as their tamer. Tom and Jerry was cool too. Now we have mindless cartoons, like Flapjack, and stupid stuff like that. That's much less entertaining and educational than any show I have ever seen in my life.

Yeah. TV has gotten really messed up over the years. It's strange. But people may be getting stupider. That could be a reason why.

Probably has something to do with the economic troubles. It costs money to run shows, even in syndication, and with lower advertising revenue it's harder to purchase those broadcast rights. :(

Not that bad. But It's odd how it's so popular.

Yeah, the educational thing is another reason. Even back when the only consistent educational bits was the Public Service announcements at the end of a few cartoon series. Of course the ones about fighting and what not was always very hypocritical. PBS cartoons were, and still are, educational, but I can't think of any good ones. I think Animaniacs was the most interesting. Even the educational bits was entertaining (Props for putting the 50 states and capitals to a song).
I can only think of one anime that was undoubtedly educational. I forget the name of it, but it was about some guy who could see microbes. Still, it'd probably never air since one of the first parts is about fermenting sake.

Yeah. People forgot how to make educational shows entertaining. I still remember parts of those songs from Animaniacs.
