Yes, Ken did get beatin to death while tied to a pole. The digimon beat him until he exploded into tiny fragments and his sunglasses flew off.
At that moment they focused on wormmon so we didn't see what happened.
But this was just a fantasy, as Ken was not really killed, he was watching in some wierd kind of way.

Oikawa died while partially in that inbetween world that grants wishes.
It granted his wish to restore and watch over the Digital World by transforming him into a flock of butterflies.
