I don't fucking believe it! At some point the past few days, E621 shut themselves down with this message.

Thanks to numerous threats to our host, false claims of illegal content, harassment and a few things that are much worse, e621 is being closed down permanently. It's been fun running it. If you're looking for an alternative, try dammitfreehaven.com or something. If you want to come in and bitch at us, #e621 on irc.darkmyst.org will be a place you can do that. Or you can yell at me on twitter, twitter.com/ajkirwin or just email admin[at]e621.net and scream at me. Whatever.

And to all those who have lied and threatened and caused problems, well, congratulations. You got what you wanted I suppose. One site down, only about, what, fifty thousand left to go?

I don't know what has been happening the past year, but it seems like there has been an explosion of trolls flooding every website, especially Youtube and Danbooru-type sites like E621 and trying to rip them down through underhanded tactics and false reporting. We see this on Youtube where people will flag videos under false pretenses and forcefully get them deleted from the site (Which is easy, considering that Youtube is 95% automated). Dasboschitt has experienced this with Gmod Idiot Box 9, and that's just one of thousands of cases. On SoFurry, I'm getting trolled by one guy who flags me for posting drawn pictures of lolicon, which is considered appropriate by SF's rules.

Seriously, what the hell is going on? Is the US going so far south that more people now have nothing to do but fling shit everywhere? We can't let these assholes get away with stripping away the few things that are actually GOOD on the internet!
It... it went down? But... But I haven't saved every picture from it yet!!

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Now my (rare) days of heavy duty clicking have been in vaaaain!!

Wait... are a significant number of trolls American?
e621 will return soon!

A new administrator (Varka) has taken over responsibility for e621, and is going to be bringing the site back up over the next 24-48hrs. Any further questions you have or issues you wish to raise, please contact Varka at varka@e621.net. Whilst it's been fun running e621, I cannot continue to deal with the level of harassment that being an administrators inevitably leads to, as well as many unwilling or unhelpful people. But to those who HAVE been helpful, friendly and honest, thanks for making my time as your Glorious Leader a happy one..

Message from Varka

That's right, folks - e621 will return, very soon. I'm currently transferring the site across to a new server and getting everything set up, and working on a few specific changes (most notably to the takedown policy), which I hope will improve matters for everyone.

The site may stay down for a while longer (possibly longer than 24-48hrs), because I'll be driving to Eurofurence shortly, but I will do all I can to get it up and online as soon as possible. My intention is to continue to improve e621, and to give it the stable platform it needs to remain open perpetually - and I hope that with everyone's help, we can keep this incredibly important furry art resource alive. If anyone has any questions or comments, then please feel free to contact me at varka@e621.net.
Oh my GOOT a lurker! *glomps*

I am so glad they're coming back! Daddy needs his fix of well tagged porn and oversized pictures!
*ahem* As I have said once, I do not like to discuss thing related to Loli/shotacon as it relates to H since certain things happened since this is a US based site.

Anywho. Some people are just bastards. Youtube comments can be really stupid and so can comments for Image sites. Just look at Rule 34.

But if I ran an site like that, I would have little patience for stupid things as of such. Image sites are there to hold pics for you to jack off to. No one cares what you have to say unless it's helpful. So, unless you can help with a question someone else has, Kindly STFU and continue to fap.

I may be mean but, I get tired of BS the times I do say something.
Been seeing FA Journals pop up about this a ton lately. Why do people care so much about some random porn site? Seriously...there's a million other random image sites or search sites out there.

a world w/o e621

(Image tag removed, it was a little big but you're a lurker so no problem now.)

Nostalgia Critic had a bad run with Youtube during the giant Viacom assfuck it got, far as i'm concerned BoSchitt should try setting up his own website, maybe inviting some other Machinima directors onto it and making it a rival to Machinima.com's dominance. It's financially risky sure, but he won't have to deal with trolls and idiots as much if he has more control on who posts and who doesn't by banning the troublemakers.

I for one have never heard of this site, so it's probably not as popular as Youtube or Paheal or even SoFurry. I gather from WikiFur that its a mature furry porno image board, much like FChan, so to be honest I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's just an image board, basically a Internet site for pinning up porn for a while until it loses interest and someone else starts a thread, asking for porn.
Checking the website's main page, it says that Varka will be taking over the website and it will be returning soon.

If this is correct, then your drama is over
Again, my beef isn't solely with the site being shut down (at first). It's with the fact that trolls are gaining enough power on the internet to start destroying content/websites that they don't like, and how automated systems like Youtube are only making it easier for them.

And I don't think Machinima directors would be able to create their own website. Machimina contracts are heavily restrictive (which is why Boschitt turned down the offer to become one last year) and probably has some clause somewhere in the contract restricting them from posting their content just anywhere they want.

True, but i wasn't referring to the company Machinima.com. By making their own website, freelance Machinima directors like BoSchitt would not be restricted by such contracts and at least their work cannot be forcefully removed as it can on Youtube.

Also, note that Gmod Idiot Box 9 is now back on Youtube, so what was lost has now returned. Trolls get away with some terrible things, but it's nigh on impossible to control people over the Internet. It is just a communication network, the only way to terminate them is block their access to the Internet in the first place and ISPs probably wouldn't take kindly to losing customers that spend so much time online (hence paying them more).
