Lately, it's been asked repeatedly on this board as to why there seems to be so much anti-Renamon sentiment. I've decided to take it upon myself to explain this phenomenon, as both the issue, and the roots that have caused it, are starting to discourage artists here. Now, this may seem like a discussion topic, but I put it here because I think that the people who are most affected by the issue are here.

As I've explained several times before, the anti-Renamon sentiment isn't really due to Renamon herself. Here's how it is: back when we were still on the DaD03, Renamon hentai was king (or queen). She was the sacred image, the golden cow, as it were. And it got to the point where, if you were an artist, then God forbid you should do anything that wasn't Renamon-related.

And what few non-artists seemed to understand was that artists can't just snap their fingers and make images appear. The artists have to draw the art first, and, let's face it, if you're not a Renamon fanatic, then she's really hard to draw. And, when the art is done (drawn, scanned, AND cleaned up, which can sometimes be a very time-consuming process), there is still the matter of hosting. No matter how good an artist you are, most cheap hosting will eventually drop you if you use them for posting hentai. Hell, even Prophet, who's so good an artist that he could probably make Linda Tripp look sexy, has been beaten by the hosting problem on more than one occasion.

Art has to be made. And making art, and more importantly, posting it here, takes time and effort (and sometimes also money, for supplies). And, since artists here can't get demand money for their work, they were essentially posting on the basis that they're going to get encouragement. And for those who drew Renamon, encouragement was plentiful. But for those who didn't, encouragement was less common.

Praise. It was all that was asked of the viewers here. Praise, for some of the newer artists, means acceptance. Praise is the fuel of hentai artists. But if an artist posts a pic and receives no praise, they have essentially spent a good deal of time and effort, and have gotten themselves another step closer to being expelled from their hosting service, with no return on the investment. And, when this board opened and the DaD03 closed, some artists decided that they had invested so much into their hentai art, and gotten so little appreciation in return, that they just didn't follow.

And there was the beginning of the anti-Renamon sentiment. Those artists who left had friends, and the friends wondered what drove the artists away, and they looked at the old board, and saw Renamon everywhere, and thought, "Renamon is to blame". And all an idea needs is maybe four believers, and then the idea becomes self-sufficient. In no time at all, Renamon went from hentai icon to public enemy #1.

Does that mean she's to blame for the lack of artists? No. It means she was an easy target. The fault, in reality, lies with EVERYONE. Let's face it. Only a few people are getting praised, and others are just getting ignored. It's not impossible to fix. Those of you who aren't artists need to start responding more. I mean, for God's sake, when someone posts a pic that gets viewed 150 times, but only generates 2 responses, then there is something wrong. So everyone, to help bring back the artists, stop blaming Renamon, and start commenting more. Simple as that.
1, i'm making this a sticky

2, i bold 2 important parts of the post (although all of it is important)
 Holy Hell... I'VE BEEN STICKY'D! WOOT!

... Err. Sorry about that sudden outburst. Just kinda cool that the words of a random artist like me have achieved sticky-ness (and bold-faced, to boot).
Now I know a mod/admin can change the text in other people's post.

Right, we should not blame Renamon.

Dread: yes, i'm just wishing it gave note as too who dose said edits... -.-

Ruhe: What methods should I use to torture her? Wax? Whip? Dildo? Clamps? Fisting?
*reclines in his rock-hard chair*

*smiles* At least I can't be held to complaint on this one. I complemented just about every art that was posted up.
I can, it's dawned on me as of late how rude it is of me not to post a reply to an artist, whats even worse is I've learned it the hard way with it happening to myself (well actually 4-5 posts of my art topic ain't that bad)

but yeah, praise is an artists fuel, I heard it I was like "bam, gotta try harder now!" even though i've only came out with few pics on this board I should have known better than to be so unsupportive.

Hell, this is a message board, were all basically friends, come on! lets show some damn spirit around here!

*takes off clothes and parades naked*

okay that last part was spamish but I stand on my other comments.
i'd like to shine a little light on this from another angel, those 4-5 posts we get per our post is nothing to the titanic posts we saw to Acchan or Prophets posts. granted they are good artists but most people wouldnt give the slighest care to anyone else unless they where light on fire and held thier image infront of everyone. even then they would only get a few post for the show.

i'm not saying i didnt eprishate the posts i got, because what i got i'm sure people meant. in relation to the other artists with the 15-30 post for a simple sketch as aposed to the full work we the other people did its kind of demening. just as a note, most of those large topics were not Renamon too. some artists just where overwhelmed with Renamon requests in my opinion. i can say that safely. i didnt get many requests but most of them where Renamon if i did.

she was an easy target, signs of this where Acchans Request slut series. he was hounded to do Renamon stuff because he was so good at drawing her, possibly better than anyone else. he was the most professional artist here in my opinon (at least in the artists section)

: :Off Topic: :
another thing guys is this should be in the random chat section or the rants section. i think i should lock this and move it there but i wont because another mod thought it should be stickied here.

this section is for pictures more than idle chat. its acceptable to have it in here once in a while but if a topic gets to big then its not art... its chat. i cap the limit at ten posts (more) then i move it elsewhere. take it as fair warning that it will be moved for all of you who are involved in this topic.
i'll leave a shadow here but it will be locked.

Ryoku
I'd hafta agree with Ryoko, here (Except on the fact I think B is a more professional artist - but both are less so than Sebastian "Sirkowski" Frechette)

I always found it funny how most of my stuff is underappreciated.
The only times it hasn't was when I've been drawing "what's hot (As in new and exciting)"

Like that Kari/Sora/Mimi one I did when 02 was playing. Or the Rika/Juri one. Both got a nice big response, because they were popular in their times, and still are.

Frankly, I find there is little incentive to posting any work here.
I have over 50 non-hentai and hentai sketches I just find no need to post, by the simple reason that none of them contain Juri, Renamon, Angewomon, or anyone else's "faves".

Look, if you want to attract fresh new artists, you give them incentives.
Like SK did on his site with those Poll Girls.

You have to give to get, and you have to be giving a lot more than you get if you want new artists.

Snappy layouts (Blue and blue? Uh uh sister! Try Blue and Orange! Or Green and Purple! Booyaka!), fantastic images (C'mon - that Digiartist's Domain banner on the right hand corner is soooooooooo newbie cliche. Chrome? Actung baby!), great posticons (Bring back those Digimon sprites), and, or course, a system of EXP, virtual cash, and a virtual store to spend your virtual cash in.
To illustrate my point, the Clock Crew site has all that ( http://www.clockcrew.cc/bbs/index.php?s= )
Or, to a far lesser extent, Aya's board

I am quite aware that this seems more like a discussion topic. However, I had put it here because this is the section that the anti-Renamon sentiment has affected the most.

This is entirely the wrong way to bring in new artists. Inevitably, every time something needs to be changed, there's always someone who suggests, "Well, why don't we make it look better?". The thing is, that won't solve our problem. It'll just make it look better.

And as for incentives, that's another step in the wrong direction. A EXP system will just push the oldbies up even further and intimidate the noobs. Now, on Scribble's board, the EXP system works mainly because it's sort of a closed forum. The people there are more tightly knit than people here. In short, there are less noobs there. What we're trying to achieve here is more noobs. Much more.
Hmm, so is okay for me to don't go away, right?

Well, i will sketch some non-Renamon pics to see if the people here likes it.
