Ok I just received an email from my debate coach. I am now signed up to go to a useless tournament this weekend. The problems are 1) I don't want to go to this one. 2) I know very little about this topic. 3)I hate this topic. 4) I really am not that great at debate so why was I chosen.

Ya maybe not the best reasons, but I would prefer to avoid embarressments this weekend and really just avoid it. I gotta get out of this and so far all I have thought of is saying I have something better to do. Really there are no advantages to me doing this, only disadvantages. The only reason they are even doing this is to give some of the debaters going to Emory some experience on the topic. I am not going to Emory for I don't qualify, SO WHY ME!

PS I am not feeling great, maybe that would be an option if I work it correctly.
Can't you just explain your reasons for not wanting to go to your coach? Are you required to go or can you just turn it down?
Usually I would say to tough it out, and to get the experience for your own personal gratification and such, but...

Sometimes you just need to except that you're not ready, and you should tell your coach that.
You could always use a "I'm sick" approach. Not the best but it might work.
Tell your coach this. "I'm sick. I don't know shit about this topic. And if you make me go anyway, I am going to BS my way into it, and make you look as stupid as possible for bringing me"

It worked for a friend of mine once... Of course.. then he got detention for being rude to the teached dude...
Don't use the "I don't know shit approach," because he'll just tell you to research it.
Like to the drugs...Just Say No. Or are you getting some punishment or something if you refuse? Unless you do, I don't see the point.
