I could've bought the new A.F.I. album today, but I'm holding out for the import version with a cover of Nine Inch Nail's "Head Like a Hole." I have low expectations for this album.

In the meantime, only one commercial rock album has been a pleasant surprise so far this year. I'm talking about Godsmack's "IV," which is only their fourth album if you don't count "All Wound Up" and "The Other Side," but that's beside the point. I would say that this is Godsmack's best album yet, much like Disturbed's "Ten Thousand Fists" back in September, the musical maturity is shown here.

"Livin In Sin": 7/10. It's a good song, but it's not very catchy.
"Speak": 8/10. It's a catchy song, but it's lyrically poor, but then again, this is Godsmack.
"The Enemy" 7/10. It's a good rocker.
"Shine Down" 9/10. Possibly inspired by the awesome band of the same name, this loses a point for being religious, but it's not in a preachy way, and the harmonica sounds great.
"Hollow" 7/10. A slower song, kind of like Korn's "Hollow Life."
"No Rest for the Wicked" 6/10. Starts like "I Stand Alone," and then it gets ugly.
"Bleeding Me" 6/10. Now they're borrowing titles from Metallica. Too bad this song is nowhere near as good as Metallica's "Bleeding Me."
"Voodoo Too" 8/10. The drum melody is back. It sounds pretty cool, but they're borrowing from Metallica on this one too ("The Unforgiven II").
"Temptation" 7/10. It's overrated.
"Mama" 7/10. It's still better than Metallica's "Mama Said," which is probably where they got the idea.
"One Rainy Day" 10/10. The best song on the album! It sounds like a superior Alice In Chains song.
I'm sorry I dont really care for Godsmack, but I can't wait for Paris Hilton's album. jk
Ratings? Cool. Rammstein's latest album ROSENROT:

1) Benzin: The guitars are going strong here, and the vocals are pretty heafvy. It's a very well put together some all together. 9/10

2) Mann Gegen Mann: Everything REALLY flows in this song. The vocals, drums, acoustics and keyboarding blend together and create an amazing sound. 10/10

3) Rosenrot: This song grows on you. It starts out slow, but picks up a dark intensity as it goes on. 7.5/10

4) Spring: There are some nice guitars and keyboarding done here, but it feels like it's lacking the energy of the previous songs. 7/10

5) Wo Bist Du: The clarinet is a nice touch, and the rest of the song does a good job of transitioning between straight-up instrumentals to a blend of vocals. 8/10

6) Stirb Nicht Vor Mir/Don't Die Before I Do: Rammstein is not a love song band, and a half-german half-english single is interesting but is really out there. 6/10

7) Zerst

I realize that Rammstein has tremendous cred internationally, but I only listen to bands that call English their native language. I need good melodies, but I also need decent lyrics. Foreign bands that attempt to use English do an awful job of it. They know who they are.
That sounds like a good CD. I think about it. And in other news, I found out something about black sabbith's classic iron man. (Nothing you can't learn by reading the lyrics but I never did before.)
Seeing how Godsmack did a cover of "Green Leaf," this is on topic. So what did you learn about "Iron Man?" If you're going to tell me that he's really Tony Stark, it's too late. I already know.

I found it while going through some wiki articals I had wanted to read. (I was reading the wiki about the show gargoyles. A little shocking what I found out)
This deals with Predestination Paradox I learned about a couple of examples of this. It was very interesting.
Predestination paradox, you say? I think I'm doing something like that in my series, but my self from the future might prevent me if writing the series eats up time I should be spending doing better things. Wink
