As it turns out fucking up a dub is more universal than I thought.

Awhile back I got the first series of Red Dwarf on DVD. For those of you who don
They may not have had much money or much time to do that well enough.
Or they may not have cared as much to do that.
I don't really think it had anything to do with the budget since CG shots can get pricey. As for the cuts that were made none of it was something I'd think was unacceptable but of course not being Japanese I wouldn't have a clue.

The only explanation I could think of is maybe that it involved a joke that couldn't be easily translated into nihongo like a pun that any who spoke english would get without even thinking about it.

Or it could just be that most dubbers don't really give a fuck about staying true to form. I think we've all had experience with shows like that.
usually they don't give a shit to keep with the original version that much. Explanations like, they need to change it, to make it suitable for the common people at this place on earth.

And I think they're mostly lazy too.
Lazy and/or stupid. because quickly dubbing things is only looking at things in the short run.

I still stand by my belief that if they did a good job that would establish a good base at which to be thought of as a dependable studio that fans would like and people selling the rights to their shows would feel more comfortable using that distributor. Well the ones where the actual makers of the show have any say. Such is the plight of big business.

Take Nelvana as an example for the most part anime fans wouldn't trust them to crap in a box and guarantee it let alone with another series.

4Kids is in nearly the same boat since they routinely take animes meant for older teens and dumb them down for little kids (Yu-Gi-Oh, One piece are probably the best examples of that.)

But even the more dependable distributors fuck up from time to time. ADV's version of City Hunter change
Digimon probably didn't get enough fan base... or just a buncb of various minor reasons like that.
But back in the day, it DID have a fan base. Problem was that the American fan base consisted mostly of the exact small kids for whom the dub had been made.
I guess. I never saw much of it then. It was overun by pokemon games and cards alike.
It's taking them this long to make dvds for europe, think how long it would take for uncut dvds.
