Worst Television Programming: FOX. This past Monday, the Fox Network actually ran a reality special called "Who's Your Daddy?", with one woman trying to identify the father she never knew. This is only the latest in the long series of utterly stupid filler material that the network has come up with.

Worst Superhero Movie: Catwoman. Hey, it's Halle Berry, dressed like a Christina Agueleira wannabe and fighting against a... erm, psycho-bitch model. Have we learned nothing from the "X-Men" movies? The Berry is poisonous, ladies and gentlemen.

Best Comedic Moment: The Pile, in the "South Park" episode, "Goobacks." Desperate to get rid of the time-travelers from the future who have stolen their jobs, the men of South Park strip down and start engaging in homosexual acts, in the hopes that this will somehow lower the birth rates in the future (and thus prevent the immigration to the present.) In that one scene, everything from homophobia to outsourcing to the Abu Ghraib photos, got well and truly parodied. Another brilliant moment from Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
Quote:Most egregious investigative journalism: "Murder in Laramie" by 20/20. Elizabeth Vargas tries to prove that Matthew Shepard's murder was not a hate crime by interviewing the two killers, but that's not the worst part. No, the worst part was that one of the killers was hoping that the interviews would help him get a retrial. For shame.

Alright, we get the subtle message; you're a homophile.

I think she got a pity Oscar, not because she's black (just barely), but because she had to do a very explicit love scene with Billy Bob.

wise, please don't start that
but gnostic is right about the tv show reality tv sucks so much ass it's not funny
I prefer to call it "straight liberal guilt." It's the product of having gay friends and conservative parents.

Also, the ethical issues generated by the "20/20" report go further than just the homophobia (even though it IS pretty stupid to start painting Matthew Shepard as a gay meth addict at a time when the Religious Right is jumping on any evidence of the "inherent immorality of homosexuals," and when some states are starting to reconsider their hate-crime legislation.) The real ethical issue is the fact that one of the murderers is still hoping to get a retrial, and he was using his airtime on the show as a way of stirring up sympathy for himself. The TV networks are not supposed to allow that, as it could potentially taint the jury pool.

It could, if anybody watched 20/20 anymore. ABC as a network has about a million viewers per week now.

It doesn't matter how many people saw the report. It's still unethical.

Worst Media Overreaction: The Sinclair Scandal. Never thought I'd actually side with the conservative media on anything, but... back in October, Sinclair Broadcasting announced that it would be airing a controversial documentary called "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," which accused John Kerry of betraying his fellow GIs in Vietnam. They had every right to do this, just as Dan Rather had every right to air his now-discredited feature about the documents regarding Bush's NGS records. The only thing Sinclair did wrong was that it pressured its networks to promote the documentary as a news feature. When one of Sinclair's reporters (who has since been fired) told the media about this, all Hell broke loose. The majority of the media condemned the decision, activists threatened Sinclair with lawsuits and boycotts, and shares in the company fell. In the end, the Sinclair networks aired an altered version of the documentary, which most critics accused of being boring. Ironically, all of the controversey helped drum up huge ratings.

Actually, that Dan Rather report was accurate. The problem occurred when they scanned the old records and reprinted them, because their word processor automatically changed the font (the "proof" that discredited the files). They should've figured that some assholes would make a big deal out of the font. Old soldiers aren't big on understanding modern technology.
