WWOEC is full of crap, and we all know it.

He should try to stick with Hentaisha.
I am from it's sister site Duskstudios and I made $186 American last week thanks to commissions.

Furthermore, on a personal note to Prophet, I dislike your current style. You are capable of more, and I've seen you do more.

A bit old, this pic you did all those years ago shows a great deal of promise if you had evolved it.
Mmm. I kinda agree with you, Miguel, at least in terms of the WWOEC. While there is much talent there and while it is better-run than most other free sites, the owners have this idiotic notion that they can, at will, selct any artist's work, put it in the "Members" section, charge $5, and use all the profits to their own ends, all on the questionable premise that this somehow prevents paysites from stealing work.
i dunno he doesnt answer e-mail :(

WWOEC really has ticked me off with their practice of charging 5 bucks for viewing a lot of the work there. I can guarantee that wasn't started to keep pay sites from stealing work; all it was started for was to pay for hosting charges on the site, and whatever else....

They very easilly could have distributed password info for free, that would have kept out most paysites anyways.
ok now i can understand why you guys are angry but they did the right thing by charging $5. You see people who are out to make some money by taking someone elses work tend to go to the website where they dont even have to pay a penney to get in because they want to get the maxium profits. Besides i don't know what the bandwidth cost the the DD but i remember cobra once saying that his monthly bandwidth cost is around $4500 and i'm guessing it went up since then. how many people here can say that they can afford to pay a website who chewing up that much of there wallets. So of course they have to look for cash any way possible. Besides its only $5 people have spent more money on beer, or have paid to get into other porn websites.
and besides what else could they have done

People are cheap. They wont even pay a penny.(well maby). Noone wants to pay for somthing they can find somwhere else for free. But some people will of course. But not everyone is crazy and spends all their savings on pr0n sites.. hope i didnt ofend anyone mwhah. ><

Well, everyone has a right to make money, of course. The problem is, though, that Cobra, by charging 5 bucks for people to see the "Members" section, is effectively declaring ownership of art that he didn't create. He is therefore making money off of the artists that is not being paid to the artists. Now, of course, it's difficult for the artists to assert ownership of their work once its published on the net, because sometimes there are legal ramifications (like fanartists getting sued by the corporations that own the properties that inspire the fanart), so Cobra is exploiting that weakness to his own ends.

And yes, there are other possibilities for generating revenue to pay bandwidth.

1) He could charge artists for the use of his site. It would probably mean less artists, of course, but it would also mean less bandwidth costs.

2) He could try to present a more professional personality (and, while he's at it, learn to spell words like "due" properly). Lest we forget, Pyros, the head of Grey Archive, has kept his site alive for years because he runs it professionally, and is actually quite respectable for a pornographer. When he hits financial problems, he has loyal patrons to support him. The same thing happens here at the DaD. Loyalty without actually mandating any kind of payment. Of course, Cobra might not want to be comparable to Pyros, because he is hosting at least one of the GA's castoff writers.

3) He could simply ignore the whole image theft problem, since the paysites don't make that much anyway, with or without art from the WWOEC.

I believe he posted some news a while ago stating his bandwith was about $150 a month, which would be about right. You can get an awful lot for that much money if you know where to look, or get assistance from hosts.

Actually, I don't think he is 'claiming' art to be his own at all. I believe he only charges to see certain artists, and I'm sure they agreed to it beforehand.

There's far worse out there, I guess the more I think on it it bothers me less...

Oh, and trust me, distributing passwords for FREE would keep out almost all paysites.
