NOTE the movie ending was an alternative ending and EVA:R is not an official series

YAMAGATA -- A boy accused of beating his mother to death with a baseball bat was influenced by a cartoon that made him believe humans were unnecessary beings, prosecutors told the Yamagata District Court on Monday.

In opening statements at the trial of Hiroyuki Tsuchida, 22, prosecutors claimed that watching the science-fiction cartoon "Neon Genesis Evangelion" had made Tsuchida believe a phrase in it that said, "The ultimate conclusion of (human) evolution is ruin."

He also came to believe that humans were unnecessary beings who were destroying the world's environment, and in turn began to want to kill people, prosecutors said.

They said the youth fatally smashed his mother in the head with a baseball bat at about 2 p.m. on June 25, thinking that if he killed family members he would not hesitate when murdering others.

yes, I am an ex-eva otaku. I at one point in time knew almost anything you would want to know about eva and anything you wouldn't. The reason i became an otaku in the first place is because I made the mistake of watching End of Eva in a dark room on a rainy day. After that I was in a dark mood for the next week and I would actually get into mega-philosophical deabates with my friends who have only had a taste of what I experienced. That was the most mind-numbing show and movies I ever watched, and now that I am finally over it I realize that the show and the movies are a true danger to your psych if you are not already in a stable state of mind.

One view was that humans were uneccassary, but that is more of the gods view, and I don't believe in the gods view since I am human. The human view is that we are here to survive, and we will continue to thrive as long as we believe in ourselves and not let god take away our individuality. You chose a side, either become one with God and everybody else, or you kept your individuality. You could not make that choice alone, you needed to be strong, you needed to BE an Eva to accopmplish this, and that is exactly what Shinji had done. And because Shinji was an individual who fought against god he was able to release humanity from the brink of becoming one.

Gah, I gotta snap out of it. Sorry to all of you who would rather not read stuff like that.

......okay, but let's bear in mind that it's just a fucking show!

Man, I saw the End of Eva too, but it's all a peice of fiction meant to entertain more so than anything else. Sure it is thought provoking at times, and we come to care about the characters, but it the end I'm not gonna totally change my life philosophies because of what I've seen in a cartoon.

If you're getting depressed over a peice of fiction, keep in mind that it has absolutely no bearing on real life.
