Not long ago, we thought we had learned all we could of the digimon and there world...then they showed up. No one knows why they're here or where they came from, maybe some fanatic hackers stumbled on the digital world and decided to have some fun, maybe they're some kind of sign, of what we don't know. All we do know is that dozens of popular characters from anime, manga, and games have been popping up in the digital world. We haven't been able to learn much about them, but our research leads us to believe that some of them function as digimon, even having attacks and digivoloved forms. While others can acts as tamers and digidestined, helping the digimon grow and evolve. Whatever the case is, we can only hope that the new tamers and these strange beings can work in harmony, for it's only a matter of time before someone takes advantage of them.

So are cannon characters going to play any part or do we play as characters only from other animes or original characters?

At least one of your characters has to be from a different series, but other than that one you can have anything, your own original character or a cannon character. As for their roles, I suppose cannon characters would have the same duties as any other, just being more experienced than the newbies.
