Fight For Survival (Zombie RP)

In the early 21st century, scientists discovered a new kind of viral entity, unlike that of any other. They named the family of viruses 'necroanimatic', but the only virus in that family was soma. From the greek word for body, soma enters the bloodstream and immediately travels towards the brain, where it infects the brain and creates a 'pseudo-organ', killing the body but leaving it with a very primitive functional level. In other words...

a Zombie.

Progression of Symtoms

• Hour 0 - Infection.
  
• Hour 1 - Wound becomes inflamed and purplish blue/green in color.
  
• Hours 2 to 4 - General weariness and fatigue.
  
• Hour 5 to 8 - Fever, nausea and joint pain. Commonly mistaken for flu.
  
• Hour 9 to 18 - Disorientation, dizziness, failing senses (blurred vision, difficulty hearing, etc.) and difficulty concentrating.
  
• Hour 19 to 22 - Severe vomiting, involving blood or black bile
  
• Hour 23 - Death
  
• Hour 24 - 'NecroReanimation'
  

Soma is incurable, and incapable of being vaccinated, as any level of the soma virus is 100% fatal. The only possible way to survive soma is to kill the infected victims as soon as possible, and remove or burn the corpses afterwards. Soma can only be transmitted by fluid-to-fluid contact, so just touching a zombie isn't necessarily enough to be infected by one.

Outbreak Levels

1. Rural/Localized Outbreak - between 1 and 20 subjects. Easily managed by an individual or small group, armed lightly.
   
2. Small Population Outbreak - Between 25 and 100 subjects. A group, moderately armed, can fight off such an outbreak indefinitely.
   
3. Heavy Population Outbreak - 150 to 1000 subjects. Unless well-organised, subjects cannot survive against such an outbreak for long.
   
4. Critical Outbreak. Zombies now outnumber the living. the best way to survive is to go underground and wait for the zombies to rot and fall apart. (See Zombie Fact & Fiction)
   

Zombie Facts

• Zombies have a land speed of about 1 step every one and a half seconds.
  
• Zombies are not created by magic or 'voodoo'
  
• Only about 1 in 4 zombies possess the cognitive ability and co-ordination to climb a ladder.
  
• Zombies do not have 'super strength'
  
• Zombies are only as capable as their bodies will allow. (If they have no eyes, they cannot see; no leg muscles, no walking, etc)
  
• Zombies are not 'organised', though they can distinguish other zombies from the living.
  
• Zombies do eat living flesh, even though they are dead, and need nothing to sustain themselves.
  
• Zombies do not feel pain, cannot be poisoned and cannot drown.
  

IMPORTANT!
The only surefire way to 'kill' a zombie is to destroy or sever the brain. Destroying the brain kills the zombie, but severing the head only stops them from being a treat. Their heads are still fully functional without the body, so keep your fingers and toes to yourself.

Regarding Weapons
In theory, anything can be used as a weapon against zombies. Aside from their resistance to death and contagious condition, zombies are as human as their victims.there are, however, factors to consider:

• Range: Likely your first consideration. You want to put as much distance between you and the zombies when you're busy killing them.
  
• Power: How well your weapon kills zombies. Fairly straightforward, but know this: if the weapon simply punches a hole through the zombie's head, it may not kill them. So remember - Penetrate, not Perforate.
  
• Weight: You're gonna be carrying your weapons for a long time, not to mention any and all supplies if you're moving from place to place. So keep that in mind when you go to pick up that .50 cal.
  
• Efficiency: This mainly relates to melee weapons, but it can also effect ranged weapons too. Basically, if it needs a lot of heavy supplies to kill only a few zombies, it's not worth it. so you can break out the Chainsaws if you want, but just remember those saws need gas eventually.

Description: Wears a white, button-down shirt and black slacks. Holding up his slacks is a black belt, which also supports two gunbelts loaded with extra ammunition. He also has a sheath strapped to his leg for his father's machete.
Personality: Used to be calm, quiet person who kept to himself, focusing on his job as a computer technician. After watching his parents getting eaten alive by zombies though, something inside Alex snapped, and now he is nothing more than an a well-oiled zombie-hunting machine.
-Weapons- (All of Alex's weapons are inherited from his late father, a hunter and former G.I.)
Melee: Machete. Inherited from his father, this massive brush-clearing blade has the perfect combination of weight and edge to crack through a human skull. While it is a melee weapon primarily, Alex can, and does on occasion, throw this weapon with surprising force and accuracy, hitting its mark square between the eyes.
Close Range: Sawn-Off Browning Citori 12Gauge Thanks to his father being in the military, Alex has access to a small number of special shells, including 'Dragon's Breath', Flechette, and Hatton rounds. He only carries about five of each of the special shells, and 15 regular 12 gauges.
Long Range: Remington 700 Bolt Action Rifle. A police-issue rifle his father used for sport.

Melee: Dagger-A dagger given to him for stealth missions, it still serves many purposes, like slicing zombies.
Close Range: Desert eagle-A powerful pistol with eight rounds per clip.
Long Range: M95 sniper rifle-A powerful sniper rifle that may only hold five rounds per clip, but it is capable of piercing concrete.

OOC: Um.... not sure what good a dagger's going to do you against zombies, amaretsu. Remember, you have to destroy the brain to 'kill' a zombie. A dagger isn't exactly sharp enough or heavy enough to do that. I'd recommend a bat or a crowbar or something heavier.

Personality: Tasha is a pessimist, believing the only way to survive the zombies is to fight a way out to civilization. she can be depressing at times, but that is only because deep down she feels vulnerable, thanks to the zombies.

Alex watched through a pair of binoculars from the roof of his house, humming a morbid little tune as he did. Down the street, a few rotted, stumbling corpses were shuffling towards his house, obviously smelling his fresh meat on the gentle breeze. Alex had retired to his rooftop long ago; around him were boxes of food and bottles of water. Enough for a week or two at least. Next to him, a ladder sat, pulled up off the ground which prevented the smarter zombies from getting up to him.

"How close are they?" a voice called. Alex turned to look at his sister.

"half a mile maybe..." he said. "Why?" He blinked as a soft whistling sound zipped past his ear and into one of the zombie's skulls down the street. His dark-haired sister stood up, smiling grimly.

"That's why..." she said, pulling back the string of the crossbow.

Scott was on a nearby roof, Watching the group of zombies from a distance. He looked over to the roof Alex and Natasha were on "A crossbow? Good for stealth and power, but lacks the distance of a rifle." He aimed at a few zombies that were lined up "One bullet should kill those." He fired his sniper rifle, the bullet going through the heads of three zombies.

Personality: before the zombie outbreak Vee was very friendly, helpful and kind to all after seeing his two brothers getting eaten Vee took the armor of his dead brothers and some weapons turn into a zombie hunter.

Melee: Sword Pic of Sword - This is a sword that one of Vee's brothers made for him/ The blade is sharp enough to cut thought a grapefruit.
Close Range: Walther PPK - Vee brought this at a gun store. The gun holds 7 eight rounds per clip.
Long Range: M1903 Springfield rife - Vee also brought this at a gun store. The rife holds five rounds per clip.

IC: Vee was on a rooftop his eyes burn with rage. After seeing his two brothers get killed Vee took his sword, both his brothers armor, and some money to buy his Walther PPK and his M1903 Springfield rifle. "You basters are going to die!" Vee said to his self. Aiming his rifle Vee shot it and hit a zombie in the head. "Take that! Vee said to his self.

Natasha smirked, nocking another bolt as she did. "Y'know, a crossbow with a 150 lb. pull can outshoot several top of the line military rifles and carbines..." she remarked, leveling the bow on the peak of the roof, laying down in a perfect sniper position.

"And yet, older rifles can outshoot both as well..." Alex remarked, opening the bolt of his Remington 700, then closing it, chambering another .223 Remington round from the four shot magazine. He knelt down a crouch, balancing his elbow on his knee and leveling the rifle, focusing the crosshairs of his scope on one of the zombie's foreheads. "By-the-by... who knows where the gunshop is around here... we're going to need more ammo sooner or later...." he said softly, gently squeezing the trigger and spattering the zombie's head like a rotten melon.

Scott shot another zombie, smirking as he did so "I've got plenty of ammo for all kinds of weapons. So if you run out of ammo at some point, just tell me."

Alex raised an eyebrow, turning to look at him. "Somehow I doubt that... isn't it illegal to keep military-class weapons in a civilian home anyway?" he asked. His and Tasha's weapons were, of course, legal because they were registered as sport weapons, not military.
