Weird Ass Photography

Well, I spent a lot of time last week in the dress rehearsals for my school's production of "Into the Woods" (I am but a lowly prop-mover this time around). Most of my time was spent doing menial tasks in the green room (the room where actors and techies go when they're not onstage or in the wings), which got boring quickly, so I brought my digital camera and started taking pictures of the cast. In order to avoid trouble with the play's director, I convinced her that it was for an article about the production. This worked so well that she actually allowed me to interview cast members, and thus, an imaginary excuse has actually turned into a very lucrative chance for me to escape doing small tasks and talk to my friends in the theatre!

Well, at any rate, I ended up with an assload of pics, although, not possessing any natural aptitude with digicams, many of the pics ended up looking distorted. So I took a few of them and used Photoshop to turn them into art projects. So have a look!

Here's a nice opener. I took this one just before our last show. I photoshopped this one and ran it through the "paint" filter, to make it look like a painting. And then I used the airbrush tool to add my signature, and the word "Relax".

Here's our Little Red Riding Hood. She's a sweet young freshman and she ended up with a very large part in the play (few freshmen at our school ever get a part the size of that which she got). This was one of the first pics I took with the digicam, so I stupidly overdid it on the flash, which reflected off of her braces, and the mirrors behind her, and the resulting light not only obliterated most of the color from her skin, but also most of the color in the photo (and made it so that you can't see her white hat, or the white hat of the guy to her left). As with the last picture, I ran the whole image through the "paint" filter.

Here's one of my good buddy Wolf II (not his real name), posing with two of the three little pigs. Again, I used a "paint" filter, and I airbrushed in a thought bubble with a fork and a knife.

Here's the two princes. These guys are two very funny guys, and the one on the left is one of the most experienced actors at school. Not only did I airbrush in the tower, and run the pic through the paint filter, but I also solarized the pic, for added effect.

Here is one of our school's most distinguished singers, and my former carpool-mate, M. I was nervous about approaching her to get a pic, 'cos I had a bit of a crush on her in my freshman year (and it hasn't quite diminished in the two years since). The original pic came out really badly, so it doesn't really do her much justice. I regret running this one through the paint filter, since she has really great eyes, and the paint filter screwed them up.

Here is another one of the show's principal players (in black), posing with a friend. You can't see it so well through the filter, but her smile in this pic was saying, "Make me look good, or you will DIE!" :P. Fortunately, the original, pre-filter pic was pretty good.

This pic (last one for now) was taken by my little brother back in December. He didn't know how to use the digicam, so this one came out right shit. The person in the photo is me. I took the pic, solarized it, and then airbrushed the letters "GM" and erased my eyes and mouth from the pic. Still looks like shit, but at least it's now artistic shit.

Comments, anyone?
