Flynn watched with amusement as Nadia practically devoured the data on the optical disk. "Who cares about sentient combat data? This is incredible. That M\ECA you fought...its AI was practically flawless. You could've engaged it almost indefinitely and not have ever gotten a good hit on it."
"That's how it seemed. It just wouldn't give an opening for a good shot at its weak spot."
"And that grenade sheared it off, huh? Hmmm..." She pulled up the dossier on the Tachikaze. "Ah yes, these grenades...and he fired it from his sniper cannon? Of course..." She pressed a few more keys. "Wow, just look at this damage projection."
A complicated chart flickered onto the screen. Flynn palmed his forehead. "Sis, you know I don't understand all that stuff."
She chuckled. "Maybe it's time you started taking an interest. If there was a way I could incorporate that into Valek..."
Flynn brought his fist down on the desk. "No. We've been through this. No guns."
Nadia sighed. "I know how you feel, but to maintain a competitive edge you're doing to need to..."
"Then install a stronger energy weapon. Tinker with the Soul Fist option, or invent something else to put on there. But I'm never going to pilot any M\ECA that has guns installed or equipped. Ever." He took a deep breath and turned away, looking out the window. "I-I'm sorry..."
"Flynn, it's okay, but you can't blame yourself for what happened to mom." She stood and walked behind him, pulling him close.
He sighed and hugged her back. "I know. But less bullets flying from M\ECAs means fewer innocent bystanders getting hit. Please, just no guns."
She stroked his headfur. "Alright, little brother. No guns. Why don't you get out there and gather some more data? It'll make you feel better."
He grinned. "Absolutely!" He left the office and jumped the railing on the catwalk, landing on the hangar floor. "Is the servicing complete?" he asked the technician.
"Didn't take even five minutes, sir," the technician, a one eyed bulldog replied.
"Jack, you've known me since I was six years old. Stop it with that 'sir' stuff." He smiled at the old fur and boarded Valek, powering up its systems.
