Simply put, spyware is software that takes data from your computer and sends it away through the internet without your knowledge. Most spyware is used for illegal marketing research, spamming and so on, but some spyware programs actually figure out your passwords by recording every key you strike and then send them back to the program's creator. You usually get spyware from downloading and installing some other program from the web; it's hidden within the program and you don't know it's there. This is bad because it infringes your privacy and slows down your computer. I heard that Microsoft is using some suspiciously spyware-like technologies in Windows XP.

Well at least you live in Canada, or else you'd have another potental problem by using Kazaa. By the way, get kazaa lite.

Here's an interesting question: does anybody know of any free software that you can download that will not only detect, but will also REMOVE those darn pieces of spyware?
