Dunno about the first 2 seasons, but you might want to remember that during a good partof 02, Gatomon could not evolve to Angewomon (no tail ring) and neither could Patamon to Angemon (dixit the dark towers.)

You're right, even in 01 it were very few the times Patamon digivolved to Angemon, even during the dark masters saga, and is worse with MagnaAngemon, in season 1 he only appeared 2 times, one against Piedmon and one against Apocalymon
