What's a brony?
And I dunno about Fluttershy. She seems to be really popular, but in the pilot ep all I saw was an extremely socially challenged pony. Can't go wrong with shy and big breasted though. *Still thinks the whole show is about disproportionatelly large mammaries and anthro ponies attached to them*
Twilight Sparkle was one of the most obnoxious protagonists ever. Was she made so watchers can identify themselves with her? I mean, what I watched presented her as an individual who's been living under the proverbial rock all her life and is now being lectured on what she already knows so we all are like: "Oh, so that's how it is."; I suppose she is to be nurtured with the world's knowledge throughout the series, learning from all her cleverly designed, personality-differentiated girl friends, right? Hm, nope. Can't say I've seen something like this before. /sarcasm
But I can't forget what this show is initially aimed at, audience wise. I identified myself with MegaMan, so I guess this generation can identify themselves with an obnoxious pony nerd.
Oh, for the record. Rainbow Dash is into women.

I absolutely love Fluttershy. X3 She's the shyest one, and she has a wonderful singing voice! Her personality is in my opinion, the cutest. XD

Oh, and "Bronies" are what guys who enjoy the show are called, I think. And I think the show is liked for the same reason "Robot Unicorn Attack" is LOVED. X3 It's girly, yes, it's geared toward girls- but it's just... so girly it's epic and manly? The comedy and writing isn't bad considering the targeted age group either, and each character has a distinct personality and quirk! Everyone's got a favorite pony, methinks.

I gave this a go to fix my irrationally rebellious attitude of 'go against the flow' all the time. I guess the intro scared me or something, I personally didn't find my gears ground by this.

Yeah, it'll take you a while to get used to it, I felt the same way when I first watched it, "zomg wtf this is girly but it's so awesome!". I went from skipping over any in-show song to putting said songs on my iPad :P

Faust said that it's written for kids and adults. Lots of humor in it that kids wouldn't understand, either. (IE, "It looks like the punch has been spiked!" when Spike was asleep in the punch bowl)

Ereth told me about the show a while ago, loved it. It sort of has that same sort of charming vibe the Powerpuff Girls had. I appreciate that they tried to cater to all age groups with the humor. A lot of cartoons I've seen lately don't really do that as much.

Eh, Twilight gets better after that pilot arc, but I agree, her friends are far more interesting. Especially Fluttershy, she's so awesome, especially what happens in the last episode. Plus she had those great hero moments with the dragon and the cockatrice episodes.
Looking forward to season 2!

I believe they stated that she will return for at least one episode in Season 2. So no, not dead, and she's probably recovering at the castle.
Speaking of which, does it bug anyone else that she isn't called Queen Celestia? Why the Princess title? Same thing with Zelda when her daddy isn't around in those games. XP

Also, Rainbow Dash is Single Target Sexual. Or, Wonderbolt-sexual. Failing that, Bi. But given the large amounts of no males, they all could have tried to be Lesbians once. Why do I say this? Already discussed this.
Fun Fact: The background characters here are actually more popular then most other background characters from other shows.
