I really dislike it when I encounter fiction here (at the DAD) where they attempt to "maturely" deal with rape as a plot point and involve canonical characters - especially major ones.
I've been thinking it over for a while, and I've come to the realization that I find it disgusting precisely because it's subtly implied that the authors of those fics think that that those characters really would rape somebody.
Quite frankly, that is one of the most offensive things you could say to a fan of a particular character - that you think it wouldn't be out of character for him or her to deceive, rape, or kill.
Please realize, however, that I'm making a distinction here... I feel that this is quite different from those ridiculous fics where character X goes on a sudden rapine rampage on character A (sometimes with the participation of characters Y and Z or more...) and character A comes to like it. Those fics are blatantly and obviously absurd Porntopia... where little in the way of consequential harm occurs, if at all.
Further clarifying things here, I do not mean that people shouldn't write such fic for fear of giving the wrong* impression. I'd just like to encourage a little more thought and care when doing so.
That said... thoughts?

Addendum: because I didn't think of this before... I'm not saying that it's right or wrong to write the other kind of fic I mentioned - the Rapine Frenzy sort. I'm going to be a neutral voice on that particular battlefront. Again, I just wanted to make a distinction.
