WHY does he act like he does, what does he see in it? His friendship with Lenina and the relationship with his girlfriend are both about 85% honest relationships, so what does he like in people? What does he not like in people? Also, what kind of sense of morality does Ben have? How does he feel when "managing" someone?

He sounds like the type of person who wouldn't necessarily care about the personalities of others, because he would be too busy maintaining his own. That might be why he would be able to get along with two girls with different personalities, because he isn't really observant or picky. He just wants people to hang out with, so he puts on a bit of a persona, and accepts whatever he gets. This could be due to insecurities, feelings of personal inadequacy, etc.
