Hmmm, I've played a lot of free games that were good, but here's two off the top of my head.
Last Scenario
It's an RPG made from that RPG Maker program, but unlike a lot of games on there, this one feels professional throughout with the artwork and presentation. It starts off simple and cliched, you're a young man who wants to be a hero for his sister (his only family left) and you live in a small village in the country. However, things really start taking off when you meet and join up with the many interesting characters throughout the story and begin to learn what it means to be a hero. The game lasts a good while, has plenty of secrets and side-quests, decent music, and a pretty fair difficultly. All in all, a very awesome RPG.
Streets of Rage Remake
Since SEGA hasn't done anything with the series in years, some fans have come together to make a really awesome game which features elements of all three games along with some new features as well. Basically, you go around, punching and kicking the shit out of Mr. X's (the mob boss) thugs as you go through the crime ridden streets to reach his lair. The graphics and controls are great, and you have a variety of characters to choose from, plus a couple to unlock. The game also features branching paths, multiple endings, and some awesomely remixed music from the Streets of Rage games. If you're looking for a good beat-em'-up, this is it.
