Yeah, but you can lock almost any game with S&K and play the bonus stage.
I beat S&K+3 with Sonic and Knuckles obtaining all 8 Chaos Emeralds and 8 Super Chaos Emeralds thus obtaining Super Sonic and Hyper Knuckles.
When I stopped playing, I was missing something like 2 super emeralds for Tails.
