Everyone rejoice! One of the biggest criminals on Earth, Augusto Pinochet, has passed away! Just in case you didn't have the "pleasure" to know him, he was the son of a bitch who ruled Chile for years, killed its president and anointed himself as it, killed anyone who opposed him and was proud to be "the one who destroyed communism", helped the English in massacring our troops at Malvinas, and many more things. Unfortunately, he died before paying for any of his crimes. But I'm sure he will in the other world. Thank you Satan! Give him what he deserves!

Well one dead jerk and that's good. Soon it'll be two. But it's only good because he was an ass.
There are a few errors in your description of him, Zephyr.
Quote:killed its president and anointed himself as it
According to wikipedia, Allende's death was considered a suicide, and a 1990 autopsy supported this.
Quote:killed anyone who opposed him
Sounds kind of hard to believe considering how he was removed from power:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto_Pin...het_regime
Sounds like he was voted out of power, which would not have even come close to happening if he acted the way you described him. True, he did kill a lot of people, but most of them were communists and socialists.
Quote:helped the English in massacring our troops at Malvinas
I'm assuming you're referring to the Falklands War, which was started by Argentina's invasion of a British territory. Wikipedia doesn't say anything about any massacres during the war, so I'm assuming you're referring to Argentina's defeat when you say massacre.
It sounds to me that Argentina was the agressor in the war, and was invading the Falklands to divert attention away from domestic problems stemming from the military junta running Argentina. Thus, I don't see any problems with Chile's support of the British, who were defending their territory from an illegal and quite unwelcome invasion.(see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falklands_W...occupation.)
Plus, Pinochet was understandably worried about what would happen to Chile if Argentina succeeded in taking the Falklands, considering the hostility between the two countries (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falklands_W...an_support)

Disparitions of opponents to his regime numbers in the thousands. From the"Arrest and trial" section:
"Pinochet's regime has been accused of systematic and widespread human rights violations both in Chile and abroad, including mass-murder, torture, kidnapping, illegal detention, and press censorship."

Careful. This is nigh on turning into a debate.
I wasn't denying he killed people, I simply found it hard to believe he "killed anyone who opposed him" considering he was voted out of office, something that would have been pretty close to impossible if he did what Zephr accused him of doing.
And he did allow elections, which led to his fall from power, making it even harder to believe he was a total dictator.
Also, that very article credits him with bringing economic prosperity to Chile, even after his rule. Sure, he wasn't the perfect ruler (he was facing a communist insurgency during his rule), but he left Chile in great condition as far as economics, and Chile is now a prosperous country. And he did accept the blame for his crimes, something few if any dictators have ever done.

All I have to say is w00t!
I bet you're happy Zephyr
I'm not trying to debate; I just looked this guy up and felt like clarifying some things. Going by what Wikipedia says, he falls short of what Zephyr is accusing him of being.

Yay! One dictator left in the world! Lol, I'm glad I asked some things about him after posting, the name had been ringing bells in my head ^^
And I've got to say a single thing about the Malvinas. According to our own history, cboy, the Malvinas were inside our political limits, thus being our property as territory. According to the past events, the British wanted them, Argentina had to fight for them, they fought and lose, British have them, why still delve on the past?
Besides, what do you know of Wikipedia? I know that webpage is resourceful, but it wasn't written by people from Chile or Argentina, how are you so certain they aren't just covering some facts to defend points that shouldn't be taken in consideration by comrades who would actually come and read the posted info?
People who write history at Wikipedia just write what they read from their own resources, they weren't in the Argentinian history, nor the Chilean.
If you don't believe me, check what they write before that:
