Amy felt a little cold spike through her but didnt let it show. She merely humphed and started flipping channels. Suddenly her phone went off and she ran to her room to pick it up. When she realized who it was she nearly squealed but kept her voice down and tried to hide her excitement. One of her friends had just gotten back from her trip to Japan and had brought with her the latest copy of Virtua Combat, a brand new form of virtual reality that was not set to release here for at least ten years. The system had no screen or visor.
You placed a helmet on your head, and the pads on the helmet received and transmitted electrical signal into your brain, making you see, hear, feel, and taste the game in real time. IT also absorbed electrical impulses sent to muscles and transmitted them into the game, keeping your real from moving around, but allowing you to move in the game world. The last copy had been a huge hit, and she had made tons of friends since the whole thing was online with millions of people. The new copy would obviously have less but the fact that her fiend got it was incredible. The last copy had gotten movement down, but never any sensation above a tingle. The new game would allow for a full array of adjustable levels of reality, from real life seeing, hearing and touching to more dulled senses for the combat in the game.
Amy had always been that kind of tomboy, exploring old houses and what not, but even though she was a feared fighter in the games battle system, she liked it much more for its live interaction and meeting with people. In her last game she had met a guy, or at least she hoped it was a guy behind the avatar, whos name was DarkFox69. She had felt a real connection with him, even though he was just an online player, and had even wondered about meeting him in real life. He spoke good English, so he had to be somewhere in the country right? But before she could even think deeply about it all the servers were cut for the next game and his last message to her was "Meet you in V2." That had been almost five months ago, and her friend had set off for japan to get an early copy since she was rich, and since her mother was the director of the whole project.
Now she would be able to get online again, meet new people, fight new battles, all in better graphics, with increased life like sensation, and experience it before almost anyone else did in the US. But even more than that, she wanted to Meet DarkFox again, and play with him again, shooting robots and other players with him by her side, talk to him over a cup of virtual tea and laugh at his jokes again. IT was almost like being reunited with an old friend and she couldnt wait. but she needed to get out of her house and get to her friends house soon or else she would not be able to get her normal screen name "Playfulkitty".
She needed to get around Shadow, needed to get out of the house, and needed to get to the game fast. She bit her lip and tried to make something up so that Shadow would not follow her. "Um, Im going out." She said as she stepped out of her room, already dressed. "I have to go to a school function, I have to help set up a stage play. I will be gone for awhile so feel free to entertain yourself." She said as she walked to the door and started to leave.
