Is PWP inherently bad? - circeus - 07-14-2006

See topic.

Some people inherently dislike PWP (i.e. Porn Without Plot, also Plot? What Plot?). I do not believe thatPWP is inherently a bad formof writing. It is a fact that most PWP are badly written, but then isn't 90% of fanfiction so?

Thereis nothing inherently wrong with writing PWP. I think where the problems really start is when such a story present the characters acting in a fashion that is OOC (Out Of Character) without any attempt at an explanation. A self-acknowledged, but well written PWP with a realistic lead up is no worse a story as any other self-contained one-shot story.

A one shot might aim at making the reader cry, feel fluffy, laugh or feel sorry for the character. A PWP is simply a one-shot that aims at satisfying the reader's lusty instincts, and should not be shot down just because it lacks a deeply involved plot.

I try for the warm fuzzies, and I like stories that make me feel warm fuzzies. Mmmmmm....warm fuzzies...

I'm also one for that sort of thing.

When you have no plot, you have no interaction with characters. To be able to enjoy the sex, a fellow must first have a connection with the characters so they can imagine themselves in the position of whichever partner they'd prefer to be. Stories without plot bore me.

Of course, that is part of what I imply with Well-written. Pressure is a PWP, for the most part, but I still worked my ass put over making sure in made as much sense as possible and was kept in character.

I've done some PWP but I tend to place even a slight plot into those too. (Like Life Story series for example)

But I suppose I'd rather read PWP because if I want to read deep characterization and plot, I'd finish reading "lord of the rings" or any of my dragonlance books.

Why would you inflict that upon yourself? lol

That was an example. Wink

Why would you even joke about inflicting that upon yourself?

Is LOTR that bad?

I've heard lots of good about the book.... Never read past 1st chapter myself.

Now even though I have read some PWP lemons but to tell the truth I like more the lemons with plot.

I mean the PWP is literally the characters OOC for the lack of a better description because there is no reason why they are having sex, is just for the heck of it like if the females were sort of sluts just searching a manhood to stick inside them :P

While in the lemons with plot at least there is a line of events that take the characters to the decision of have sex, be romance, or like in some of Red Rover's lemons a depressed female search some distraction of her current problems in the form of a male...... or a female too depending of the characters used, and many other plots.

So I really find more interesting read a lemon with plot than one without plot.
