Chapter 13 – Release

 

Matt sat up, vision blurry, and pounding headache.
”Ow, that is the last time I take mushrooms.” Matt’s focus came into view as he noticed where they were.  A bleak tunnel, with no initial means of exit visible, and pretty deserted.
”Gabumon? Can you hear me Gabumon?” Matt whispered.  He really wanted to make sure his friend was OK, but from experience he knew that sometimes being quiet was the best course of action.
”Sora? Biyomon?  Where is everyone.  TK? Patamon?” Matt forced his whisper so it was the loudest it would go before breaking into his voice.
”Matt?” A strange voice came from down the tunnel.  “Is that you Matt?”
”Gabumon! Boy am I glad to see you!”  The detachable-furry digimon waddled down the tunnel to greet his partner.  “Have you seen anybody else? Sora? TK? Even Tai would be a good thing.”
”I’m sorry matt.  I haven’t a clue where they are, although I have found a couple of people.”
”Like who?” Matt frowned in puzzlement.
”Well Kari and Gatomon are just down the corridor, and a little further down is one of the newbies.”
”Which one?” Matt was interested in where these Tamer’s came from, but he didn’t trust them.
”The kid with the goggles, and the strange Digimon – the one he claims to have created” Gabumon frowned as he said this.  He was interested in the theory of different dimensions, and the idea of the tamers.  But a kid creating a Digimon? It seemed so far fetched.
”Is Kari and… whats-his-face OK? Not hurt or anything are they?”
”They seem just fine.  The kid with the goggles went in search of his Digimon, he was a little further down the corridor.  Kari was just sitting there with Gatomon when…”
Gabumon stopped when Matt’s D-Unit started beeping.
”What’s going on now?” Matt looked down at his D-Unit, as it glowed and flashed back at him.
”GABUMON, DIGIVOLVE TO…… GARURUMON”
Matt stared at his partner for a couple of moments as he tried to understand.
”Why did you digivolve?” Matt looked at the giant wolf.
”I’m not sure.  I just felt a strange feeling come over me” Garurumon replied.

”DAMMIT!” Legacimon slammed his fist down on the table.
”What up homey?” Megafeadermon replied.  His feet were up on the table, and his metal hands came up to his mouth as he lit another cigarette.
”Another fucking child has just digivolved.  That makes 4 champions now” Legacimon growled.
”5 if you count the Gatomon” Sharpnamon corrected.
”Aw bollocks.  The shit’s really starting to hit the fan innit” Dyseezamon slouched down in his chair.

“Never mind.  We can still take them.  You are all Ultimates, and when my strength increases, I can release the remaining dark power to you.  It may weaken me, but the change is only slight.  The rest of you will be able to digivolve to Mega, at least.” Legacimon was calmer now.  His red piercing eyes faded to a natural glare, and he relaxed into his chair more.

“Now may we return to urgent business?  We are now all at the ultimate level,” Jujitamon started, very soft spoken, yet each word pronounced with a terrifying edge, “And I think we all deserve territory.  What arrangements have you made reguarding this?”

“I’m glad you mentioned that Jujitamon.  As you all know, the digital worlds and the real worlds have merged. There are now 5 distinct areas in which Digimon Lords need to be appointed.  Megafeadermon – Once you have smoked all you need, the northern sector is all yours.” Legacimon pulled out a detailed map of the new merged world.  “Sharpnamon, your area is the eastern sector.  Dyseezamon, the western sector. Gigamon, the southern sector.  Jujitamon, I want you to have the outer ring of the headquarters – you will be in charge of security.  I will have this cavern as my headquarters….  FUCK!”
”What is it?” Gigamon asked, very plum in mouth.
”Another child’s Digimon has digivolved.  6 champions now.  I think I must release the dark shadows now and let you proceed to your designated area.  These children need to be stopped.”  Legacimon’s red glare grew more intense and flashed a dark evil.

“Growlmon, I really don’t understand you boy.  First, you can’t digivolve, then you can’t dedigivolve, then you digivolve wrong… and now you digivolve for no reason whatsoever.  I think you may need to see a digipsychiatrist heh heh.”  Takato sat down in the tunnel, watching his goofy friend look at himself.
”I dunno what’s up Takato.  I didn’t mean to digivolve” Growlmon looked at himself.

“Takato!” a loud noise came galloping down the tunnel.
”Hi guys.  Whoa! You too?”
”Us too what?” Kari looked at the gogglehead puzzlingly.
”I mean – Garurumon.  You digivolved too.  Growlmon did it as well.”  Matt stared at Takato, and Takato stared back.
Silence.  Kari and Gatomon looked between the two males as Matt shot Takato a look of distrust, where Takato just shot Matt a look of puzzlement.
”OK, you guys need to chill out.” Gatomon commented.

“Yeah guys.  I think we’ll leave you alone for a bit.  Gatomon and I will scope out the rest of the tunnel.  See if we can find the others” Kari said.  Matt never took his eyes away from Takato but spoke softly.
”Be careful Kari.  If you see Sora, tell her we’re down here.”
”I Will.”

The Ring of six stood, well, in a ring with Legacimon stood in the middle.  The room was filled with darkness, all of Sharpnamon’s decoration was blurred and distorted by the fog that surround them.  A black light emanated from the Mega Digimon in the middle and it freely flowed through each of the 5 remaining members of the Ring.
”I call upon the power of the dark shadows.  I call upon the power to increase the power of these Digimon to the level of MegaUltimate.”  Legacimon’s voice echoed around his chamber, bouncing of the walls and back to him.
”You do realize you will be weaker than you have been – releasing us to the Ring…” A voice boomed out from nowhere.
”I understand.  I have the power of the three sovereign and several Digimon in my power.  I am still the leader.  I am still strong” Legacimon replied.
”Do the rest of you understand? Legacimon still leads – We, the dark shadows, have made it so.  Treachery will be punished”
”We understand” The ring chorused.
”Then so be it…”

“Takato.  What are you doing here?”
”Same as you Matt.  Our worlds collided.”
”I find that difficult to believe.  Our world is destroyed, you arrive, Legacimon kills my friends…”

Matt remembered the words the mighty Digimon had said. “One team working for one cause”.  He’d forgot all about Azulongmon.  If he trusted the tamers, then things must be true.
”I’m sorry Takato.  I’m just a little riled.  After Cody was killed… I’ve never seen a human killed by a Digimon before.  Apart from Mr. Oikawa, but those circumstances were entirely different”
”It’s alright Matt.  I think we just need some rest.”

”Do you think Matt and Takato have sorted things out yet?” Gatomon asked her partner.
