Chapter 0: She said, “Don’t let others suffer like you are suffering”

War Princess Miwako had made huge sacrifices during the seemingly hopeless battle against the almost godlike mage Jenny. The insane sorceress killed everyone who had stood by Miwako’s side and left her life without a purpose or direction.

Little did anyone know that Jenny’s death would not bring the peace everyone so much had wanted. Instead, it made things worse.

Out of nowhere, the creatures of chaos appeared. Bruus, Fylgias, and many other creatures of the darkness rained upon earth like drops of water. The seeds of chaos spread among the lands and many nations fell victim to this in an instant.

What are you saying??” Miwako exclaimed as she nearly bit the high priest’s head off.

Mistress, I’m only speaking of what I see and it’s not my intention to insult you. When you and your comrades slew Jenny, her life energy and all her powers brought forward the creatures of chaos. Your actions have caused this outbreak of darkness,” the high priest quickly replied.

Miwako gave a sigh and lowered her head “Even from behind the grave, Jenny is capable of causing misery to everyone around her…”

The two were at the headquarters of the “alliance” which had come to life when Lichen and Lorean finally bonded together as Miwako took the throne of both of the sides. But even with the combined forces, the creatures of the night were still stronger.

“I’m going to go gather some strong warriors to help us win this war. Alone none of us have any chance but together we’re stronger than they are,” Miwako spoke as she put on her helmet.

As his mistress made her way past him, the high priest gave a slight bow.

Miwako decided to start her quest from the town of Sakoi, a spiritual small city. “Clearly, there will be a paladin or a cleric who’ll want to help me,” she thought to herself.

When she arrived the atmosphere in the city was quite dead. Everyone stared at her as she walked around the city.

“Cumprimentos, peasant. I’m looking for skilled warriors. Would you know where I could find one?” Miwako suddenly asked from one as she took hold of his sleeve.

Guarde sus manos de mí!!” the villager suddenly hissed and pulled himself away from Miwako’s grip.

Suddenly Miwako realized there were group of villagers around her.

Impossible… No one can take me on by surprise… Unless it’s the work of magic…

Just then she saw that the crowd made way for a man dressed in green and red robe. He had a mask that was made from skull of an ox and a staff, which was made from its leg bone.

“Cumprimentos necromancer, what is the meaning of this sort of a welcome?” Miwako asked.

The necromancer smiled which made his yellow teeth appear to sight “Young fool slave of light. Were you not aware that Chaos could never be won? You are better to team with the devil than die fighting it.”

“What? Have you gone insane??! Chaos does not need mortals for anything else than their amusement! When they get bored of you, they’ll dispose of you like garbage!!” Miwako hissed.

The necromancer fell silent and bowed his head down “Perhaps… But even then we live longer than we ever could when opposing Chaos.”

Just then Miwako unsheathed her sword and lunged towards the necromancer trying to take him out by surprise. But the necromancer was prepared and raised his staff high up in the air and slammed it against the ground almost immediately. Brownish orange electricity surrounded her and suddenly, she was gone and no one saw even a trace of her.

“What did you do to her?” one village dared to finally ask.

I sent her somewhere where she’ll not be any trouble at all,” the necromancer chuckled as he gripped onto his staff with both hands.

Miwako opened her eyes. She was in the middle of a desert, without neither food nor water. She had no sense of where she was or where she should go for civilization.

This…. This can’t be….. Hell on earth….” She mumbled when she started to already sweat from the intense heat.

She already felt herself weaken from the horrendous heat. However she realized that if she'd stay still, she'd surely die. Slowly, she started to walk. She did not know where nor did she care. She was hoping to find someone or something.... Before it'd be too late.

A young man, around 18 began to put on his clothes. The clothes were common for farmers and didn’t look expensive at all. He admired himself from a mirror.

Are you ready John? We’ll have a rough day today,” a voice called out for him from behind a door.

The boy turned faced the door and walked towards it “I’m ready father.”

He opened the door and walked into the kitchen and spun around, showing his farmer clothes to his mother and father.

“That looks good on you. I can’t believe you’re old enough already to drive the cattle… Just be careful,” his mother thought out loud.

Don’t worry mother. I’ve got a good teacher,” he replied.

The father gave a chuckle and opened the door to the outside. The two exited the small farm and they both got on their horses.

Our herds are about 30 minutes of riding from here. Hope you’ve taken enough supplies for yourself,” the father spoke as he looked at his son.

The boy gave a nod “I have taken water and some food that mother made for me.”

As the two rode towards the direction they were supposed to go, they suddenly saw something out of an ordinary. A young woman who was lying on the sand gripping tightly a sword, while being surrounded by vultures.

Scram you cursed beasts!” the father yelled as he scared off the vultures.

The boy got off from the horse and approached Miwako “Is she…… Dead?”

The father got off his horse as well and tried her pulse “She’s barely alive. We must get her some help as soon as possible.”

LATER…

Miwako slowly opened her eyes. She realized that she was in a comfortable bed and under a warm sheet.

“Here, drink this it’ll help,” John, said as he offered a spoonful of tea to her.

She drank it and then let her head sink back against the pillow. Just then she realized she was not wearing her own armor but rather in old pajamas.

You’ve undressed me!!” she exclaimed as she grabbed the boy’s hand tightly.

John was shocked at how much strength Miwako still had and immediately replied “No I didn’t! My mother took off your clothes and took care of you! I swear I did not see you naked!!!”

Miwako looked hard and deep into his eyes but finally let go off his arm.

The boy shook his arm “I thought you were going to break my arm for a second,” he chuckled.

If I truly would have wanted to do that, you’d not even have an arm now,” Miwako stated as she turned on her other side, turning her back to him. “I appreciate that you’ve helped me but I don’t have time for any small talk. As soon as I’m ready to leave, I’ll return to my people.”

Where are you from?” John asked.

Miwako turned to face him again “I come from the Land of North, Nevarion.”

The boy shook his head and replied “I… I’ve heard of it… But it’s three moons away from our farm…. You’ll never make it through alone, not through all the dangers that would wait you.”

Miwako gave a painful groan as she realized she was unable to return to her people. All her past was stolen away from her in mere seconds.

I… I’m sorry…” John finally had courage to say.

She then shook her head “I’m the Queen of Alliance. I killed an immortal. I battled against the searing heat of the desert. There will not be anything that I couldn’t handle at full strength.”

In her mind, she knew she was just bluffing to keep her image. She had no supplies and she couldn’t take her equipment with her.

What’s your name?” she finally asked.

The boy was taken by surprise but replied “It’s John… What’s your name?”

Miwako. I’m hungry, do you have anything to eat?” she spoke as she started to get up, only to have John stop her.

Don’t stress yourself, I’ll go get you something to eat,” he said, as he walked out from the door.

Miwako blushed a bit. She wasn’t used to someone helping her out of the goodness of his or her heart. From fear or respect maybe but never just because they cared of her.

Soon John came back carrying a plate that was filled with some soup with spoon in it. As he picked the spoon and was about to help Miwako eat, she picked up the entire plate and emptied it in almost an instant.

More…” she murmured while extending the empty plate.

John looked at how the hot turnip soup had disappeared “Didn’t you burn your tongue?”

Pain reminds me I’m alive. More,” she spoke while still extending the plate.

John shook his head “I’m… I’m sorry. We’re poor and don’t really have that much food..... “

Miwako gave another groan.

Just then John pulled a sand which out from his pocket “Here. It’s not much but you can have it.”

Miwako looked long at the bread and the boy extending it. Her heart was beating fast and she knew she was again blushing, first time ever in front of anyone.

Thank you… John…” she finally said and took hold of the sandwich.

Chapter 1: Tear

Fourteen long years passed. Miwako realized that she no longer was a war princess but rather just a mere commoner, as he settled down to live in the farm. The parents of John took care of her as if she had been their daughter. As time evolved, she became more and more attracted to John...

One day Miwako and John moved away from his parents’ farm and built a small house. They started a family and were blessed with a beautiful daughter with a silver hair. They named her “Elfen” which meant “Divine beauty” in Miwako’s mother language.

Then on the verge of Elfen’s six year birthday…

Miwako had just filled a bucket with water from their well when she heard horses approaching.

“Mother? What’s that?” Elfen asked while looking towards the cloud of sand rise in horizon.

“I…. I don’t know…” Miwako replied.

Now Miwako could see the people clearly. They were five dragons riding on horses. Even more mysteriously, each of them was only a little taller than a human and was wearing suits of armor with holy symbols and carvings on them. They were of colors black, blue, red, yellow, and green.

The obviously oldest one, the green dragon got off his horse and began to walk towards Miwako “My men and I have ridden many days escaping from the Great War. Feed us and let us sleep in your beds and we’ll be on our way.”

“I am sorry but you people won’t fit. And we hardly have enough food to support ourselves and we’d starve if we’d give you the little what we have, “Miwako replied while she shook her head.

The dragon snapped, as it became clear Miwako's would refuse to aid his men. In his mind, refusing to help light warriors was giving aid to Chaos, and he could forgive no agent of Chaos. Not after the things he'd gone through...

Just then the dragon gave a hard slap at Miwako’s cheek “I didn’t *ask* wench. Do as I said and we’ll be on our way or we will TAKE what we want.”

“MOTHER!!” Elfen cried out and ran to hug her mother only to be restrained by the red dragon.

Miwako held her cheek. There came some blood down from it. Just then John came out from the house and saw the dragons.

“Miwako!!” he yelled as he pulled out his sword.

The leader dragon smiled and gave a nod to one who was colored blue who suddenly kicked at Miwako’s right leg, making it snap like a jackknife. She screamed in agony and fell down on her healthy knee. Just then, the blue dragon took hold of her from the hair and made her look.

“You’re obviously not a warrior. Have you gone insane little farmer?” the green dragon questioned John as he walked closer to the human.

John did not retreat as he closed towards the dragon too and answered, “No matter if you’d be a deity, I’d never let you harm my family as long as I’d live.”

The green dragon gave a devilish grin. Before John could do anything, the black dragon suddenly slammed against him hard and punched him hard into stomach. John coughed as he felt everything blur but he held onto his sword even tighter and stabbed it straight into the chest of the dragon. There came a crack as it pierced the armor.

The dragon just laughed. Blood came down the crack as the sword had sunk deep into his flesh. Just then he took hold of John’s arm and he could feel the bones starting to crack as the dragon pulled him closer. He gave a scream of pain as the blue dragon had suddenly gotten behind him and punched him into his back. The two dragons started to beat John and soon the yellow one joined them too.

“DADDY!!” Elfen cried as tears filled her eyes.

Miwako tried to struggle towards her husband “St…Stop! He’s still alive!!” she screamed.

The green dragon gave a chuckle and ran towards John and gave a kick at his throat making him fall to his back while gurgling.

“You cowards…. You cowards….” Miwako cursed.

She miraculously forced herself to stand on both legs and punched the green dragon who didn’t even bother dodging. If she had been still what she once was, the dragon would most likely be dead or unconscious at least. But the years had taken their toll and the only result was Miwako breaking her arm. The dragon grinned and gave a head butt, which knocked Miwako out.

I saw the dragons dig a hole into the sand. They undressed mommy and daddy and then threw them in. I heard mommy whimper out “Elfen” before the dragons began to push the sand on top of them. They were going to bury them alive…

They’d die slowly… And painfully… Of suffocation…

“What should we do with this one Drett?” the red dragon asked as he let go off Elfen who fell on her knees and began to cry.

The green dragon spat on the ground as he started to walk closer to Elfen “Well now that she knows my name….”

“We can’t kill her! The gods would curse us forever, even the god of torturing would turn his back on us!!” the blue dragon exclaimed.

Drett laughed and took yet another step towards Elfen. He was now so near that she could feel his breath on her face “True, killing children is frowned upon… But that doesn’t stop me from being able to make sure she’ll never come after me in hopes of revenge.”

Just then he sank his index finger deep into Elfen’s left eye. She screamed in pure agony as Drett pulled out her eye and admired it in his hands.

“Behold the eye which has yet to seen the cruelty of the world….. It is truly, a work of art,” he spoke while admiring his trophy before placing it into his pocket.

Elfen had barely felt the pain from the loss of her eye when Drett placed his index finger above her remaining eye. He quickly descended the finger and cut a huge scar to Elfen’s right eye, destroying it just like the other one. The scream was just as hard, if not even harder than the earlier one.

Elfen fell on her back as she twitched and crawled around as blind. Drett kicked her on the sides few times and mocked her “Look at her, lost like a little fish trying to find water. Time to fry the fish.”

Just then he stepped on Elfen’s left hand and twisted his leg. Elfen screamed as blood poured from the broken bone bits and smashed stump of a hand. Without any sense of mercy, Drett did the same on the other hand. They were both mere pieces of flesh and mush hanging weakly.

“I’m starting to get disgusted, can’t you just get over with it quick?” the yellow dragon finally spoke up.

If Elfen had seen anymore, she would have noticed how disappointed Drett seemed as he gave a nod. “Oh well play time’s over I guess,” he thought and tore both of the legs of Elfen off in an instant.

Elfen screamed in pure agony long and hard as she was left alone in desert mutilated and forever scarred. The men started to walk away from the mere torso of a girl.

Mommy…

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ten years later in a marketplace…

A man in his mid thirties bit on an apple he had just bought. He was dressed in fancy clothes and he was wearing some expensive jewelry.

“Nothing interesting today either,” he thought as he walked around the market.

Just then he noticed something. A little girl, in a black costume. But the girl had no eyes, no arms, nor any legs. Still she smiled a pretty smile at him.

“Hello sir… Can you spare few coins to a poor?” Elfen asked.

The man was stunned. This little girl had seemingly gone through hell and forth. Yet her smile…. It was brighter and more pure than anything he had ever witnessed before.

He placed several coins to her cup in front of her “Do you always work here?”

“Most of the time sir. My friends help me if I want to try getting money from elsewhere. They also get more money when I’m around, so they help me out whenever it’s possible,” she answered.

The man nodded and looked at her up and down “But… You’re not happy still are you?”

Elfen was taken by a surprise and she was silent for a moment.

“I suppose I can never truly be *happy* being here begging to make a living…. But I’ve given up hopes for anything better…” she finally replied.

“I can give you something better,” he suddenly blurted out.

Elfen’s smile returned as even brighter than before “What… Are… Are you serious??”

The man gently picked her up and with a soothing tone of voice he said “I’ll take you someplace where you will be cared for and kept warm and fed. You won’t need to beg at the marketplace to gain food ever again.”

If Elfen could have seen, she would have noticed that the man’s smile was not as kind as his words…
