Chapter 8: Lies and silence

Elfen breathed hard as she made her way back towards the mansion of Drett. As she had finally reached it, much to her dismay she realized everyone had left without leaving a trace of where they had went.

Damn it…” Elfen cursed in her own thoughts as she wondered what to do now.

Koran. She could go back to her friend and ask for guidance and his wisdom. But after Elfen had reached Koran’s house, it was just as empty as Drett’s had been. Only a singular note was lying on the table which was covered with the dried up blood.

Dear Elfen, I am sorry that I cannot tell you where I have gone. But I am not sure if this letter will be found by you or somebody else. I heard a rumor downtown… That Drett and Drang are taking desperate actions in order to stop the promised one’s task. I am already aware that you’ve failed in your quest and I can only hope you’re alive and well. I am sorry but the risk is too great, I’ve gone hiding and I don’t intend on revealing myself for anyone, not even for you Elfen.

However, I hope that this failure hasn’t made you lose your determination… The very same determination which gives you your strength and makes you whom you are. For if you will it to happen, you are capable of doing almost anything. Never give up. One day, you will be able to gain your revenge upon all those who’ve wronged against you.

Koran

Elfen cried as she tore the letter apart. She did not know where to go or what to do. And she was all alone once again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the next seven long years Elfen tracked down Drett. She followed each rumor and each whisper as she moved closer and closer to her goal… ‘Til one day she finally reached the city where Drett was now living in a luxury with Drang, in their very own castle.

Over these seven years Drett and Drang had killed at least five hundred toddlers either secretly or directly by several of ways. Some died a swift and merciful death while others were not as lucky.

And yet… Yet, they still were unable to slay the one they had originally tried to kill…

Drang admired himself from the mirror, looking at his black cape, his black top hat, the tuxedo specially made for him, and the expensive shoes that had all cost so much gold that it would have been enough to feed an entire family or even several.

”I have to say, I like this new look much more over my old robes,” he said as he spun around and looked at Drett who was lying on the bed.

Drett was silent but finally spoke up “I have to admit that when you began to write your ‘tomes of wisdom’ I never would have thought that people would actually pay money to read them.”

Drett rose up to his feet and took hold of his beautiful golden cane with a diamond at its top. What had started as a mere funding to get Drett medicines and them some supplies had helped them get so much wealth that they now lived a much more luxurious life.

“Times change. People are trading their swords for feathers and poetry, as the music and melody flourishes. People rather read about adventures than live them,” Drang laughed while he began to walk out of the bedroom. “I’m going to go buy some imported fruits from the north; do you want to come too?”

Drett shook his head “Things like that doesn’t interest me. Rather, send her in already I feel she’s waited enough…”

“I had somewhat hoped that you’d forget about her but…. Very well…” Drang replied as he gave a painful sigh knowing that his master would never change.

As he opened the door, several guards in heavy chain mails took a small red haired girl, 8 at most into the room. Her jaw was trembling as she was seemingly afraid. Blood was oozing down her skin, her entire body being covered by it. As she was brought into the room, Drang quickly left as he didn’t want to witness her fate.

“Tell me kid… Do you regret for having been a servant of Chaos?” Drett asked while he gently caressed her right cheek.

The little girl’s eyes were filled with tears and she gave a hard swallow as she whimpered “Y… Yes… I’d never work for Chaos… Please don’t hurt me anymore… Please don’t…..”

The horrible memories filled her head. How Drett had butchered her entire family right in front of her eyes and pushed her into a pit filled with their blood… The blood filling her lungs…. And her choking into her own parents’ gore…. And even from beyond that…. The thing that scared her more was the smile…. The smile of a killer….

Let our love be a flame, not an ember,
Say it's me that you want to dismember.

She trembled remembering the horrible stench… The stench of the death…. That filled her nostrils immediately as she was pulled out from the blood bath.

Your heart is hard as stone or mahogany,
That's why I'm in such exquisite agony.

She slowly gave a nod as she trembled from the mere memories of the horrible punishment.

Bash in my brain,
And make me scream with pain,

A sadistic smile came upon the face of Drett “I do not think you’ve repented enough my little dear… I think I need to purify you completely…”

Your eyes cast a spell that bewitches.
The last time I needed twenty stitches
To sew up the gash
That you made with your lash,

MEANWHILE…

Elfen looked at her map and then around the small city “Seems like he's getting careless. Drett's castle really does stand out from all the other buildings. It wasn’t that hard to track it after he and Drang became rich and lazy.”

Elfen gave a forced smile as she admired the castle before starting to make her way towards it. Unbestknown to her, dark clouds were gathering over the city as something terrible, terrible was about to happen.

Chapter 9: Make her fret, make her bleed. Make her regret, being bred.

Elfen walked into the castle. It was beautifully decorated with expensive jewelry. There were two guards armed with spears and armor who seemed to stand in watch beside one door.

”Men of war, hear me out! I do not know how much you’re being paid for guarding your master but certainly no sum of money is worth your lives?” she spoke as she walked towards the two.

The other guard moved aside, clearly being able to tell that Elfen had gone through too much to care what’d happen to these two. The other was either too young and foolish or perhaps too loyal and courageous. He gave a war yell as he readied his spear and prepared to lunge it towards her.

Elfen seemed to not even move aside but the spear which should have hit into her heart went straight throughout her. It was mere inches away from Elfen’s side. She looked at her side, with the spear next to it and then she slowly moved her head eyes to look directly back into his eyes. He screamed and grabbed onto his throat as his face melted and his skull shattered.

Elfen started to walk again with the blood having painted part of her face as red, almost as if a war symbol. The guard did not dare to do anything as she walked directly towards the door and opened it and went further in where she assumed her foe was waiting.

What she saw lying on the bed was a mere shell of the sadistic dragon she wanted to kill. This old dragon… Was the killer she had so long looked for? He seemed so weak and fragile… Could this truly be the same man? Elfen moved closer towards Drett who looked at Elfen without giving one blink. If anything, he was brave. Surely, he must have known what she intended to do... Right?

“Do you remember me Drett? Do you know how long I’ve waited this moment? All my life… Every single minute of my life…. I’ve lived only for this moment… To finally kill you… Don’t think I’ll give you any pity even if you’re at state like that…” she spoke as she moved closer to Drett while a grin appeared on her face.

Just then Elfen noticed as if Drett was trying to say something. Final words? An apology? Or perhaps a plead for his pitiful life? Elfen leaned a bit closer to hear what he was trying to say.

And at that exact moment, Drett pulled the secret lever near his bed, making the trapdoor underneath Elfen's legs open. She fell into the darkness while the laughter of Drett carried into her ears.

Fracture my spine,
And swear that you're mine,

Elfen fell into some sort of brown mass and she sank downwards into it. As she was able to reach the surface, she realized it was rotten flesh and body parts. Chaos men, humans… And she had just pulled a dead girl’s body into surface. Her red hair was painted brown from the filth. Elfen gave an ear splitting scream as she tried to move around the pit, which was filled with maggots and the horrible brown watery liquid with mixtures of things she didn’t even want to know.

Above her, she could hear the laughter of Drett. He was laughing and obviously observing this “Foolish creature of a night! How does it feel to be one with your own kind? Live your life in the pig’s puke as you deserve! Live off the remains of your ill willed friends!”

Elfen tried to reply but she gagged into the horrible mass. She tried to struggle out of the pit but it was straining her really fast. She was drowning into this indefinable brown mass.

”I shall purify you. I will make you become normal. As you die spitting on the chaos and into the filth of your kind, you shall be reborn as light. That’s the way of the life and that’s all you’ll ever gain from trying to kill someone as pure as me. I am beyond your powers of chaos, I am a talker of gods and represent all of those who have faith that one day good will triumph,” Drett laughed while he gave a cough and covered his mouth.

And then there came complete silence. No more screams from Elfen. No more struggles could be seen.

Drett gave a smug grin as he half disappointedly said,”And here I was hoping you could at least live longer in the agony…. However, your purification is now over. May gods be merciful on your soul” he spoke while making a cross symbol over his chest.

Just then Drett’s smile faded. A pillar made of the mass flew out from the pit as Elfen manipulated it. It danced in the air before hitting straight against Drett. The brown mass forced itself into Drett from his nostrils, his mouth, his ears, his corner of eyes, and even from his tail hole. Drett gagged and tried to fight but his knees became weak and he fell to the ground as the pit's contents forced into him from every hole of his body, utterly choking him. It took few minutes of weak twitches and struggles but afterwards, Drett was finally lying dead on the floor covered with the bits and pieces.

And make me scream with pain,
Then kick me once again,
And say we'll never part.

Elfen breathed hard as she lied in the now empty pit, fighting hard the urge to vomit. Just then she realized how a large shadow was under her and it was rapidly growing. To her horror she realized she was starting to sink into it. The shadow swallowed her and disappeared just unexpectedly as it had appeared. Elfen could have not known it but Drang and Koran shared the same fate with similar shadows.

Chapter 10: The little girl that could

As Koran came to his senses he saw nothing but darkness around him. There was no sign of light at all and yet, he could see himself perfectly. A bit further in front of him he saw the girl he had been protecting all these years. She wore a completely white dress and she was playing with a dolly.

This is the doll you got for me for my 6th birthday…” she spoke while she tore the doll’s head off “And I’ve always hated it… Just like I hate you…”

Koran blinked and took several steps towards her “Why are you doing this? It’s not the time yet for you to use your powers like this….”

I’ve gotten tired of listening to you!!! All I can do is read old boring books and stay inside the house always! I’ve never been outside!! I can’t do nothing but read books because ‘I need to reserve energy’ for when the time comes! For me, the time can be NOW!” she screamed as she walked towards the old necromancer.

Koran was seemingly sad as he replied, “I never knew…… I am sorry… I guess I’m a poor parent…. But you’re taking a huge risk doing this when you’re not strong enough to defend yourself yet.”

The Evil One smiled and giggled, as she raised her right hand. There came a blinding flash and Koran screamed in a pure agony as his flesh melted while the light consumed his legs and arms. He fell on his own melt body parts causing them to make squishing noise.

“Do you still think I’m not strong enough? Do you think I can’t defend myself DADDY?? I’m going to do what you wanted and kill the holy dragon warrior and then… I’ll play with aunt Elfen,” she giggled.

Koran coughed as he gave his final words “Don’t… Harm… Her….”

ELSEWHERE… IN THE MIDST OF DARKNESS…

Drang looked around himself “I’m in the negative plane? How can this be?”

Then he noticed it. A little girl in a white dress. The contrast of her dress and her pale skin against the dark surroundings made her seem more pure and innocent than she obviously was.

The one who’s name can not be mentioned!!” Drang exclaimed as he reached his hand for his sword.

The girl giggled as she took a step towards him “It’s interesting how you seem so… Upset about mentioning my name… Why’s that?”

Never mention the name of true evil if you value your life,” Drang mumbled while positioning his sword into a fighting position.

The Evil One tilted her head a bit and then gazed a bit up while she pointed her finger up. Drang looked up to where she pointed at and saw billions upon billions of locusts raining down towards him. They covered Drang all over while he screamed as his skin was being eaten. He groaned as he tried to brush them off, only to make his right eye fall off its socket.

“Does it hurt? Does it huuuurt??” the girl sang while moving closer to Drang.

Drang screamed and slashed his sword towards the girl. The blade stopped within an inch over her head, stopped by an unseen force. She smiled as her nails started to grow longer and with one move she slashed the throat of Drang wide open. The blood sprayed out from the throat and painted her white dress and her face with grim red, as Drang gurgled for air and died. She licked her lips and tasted the blood.

Once more… With a feeling…

Elfen gasped as she felt around her face. She was clean from all the filth that had covered her. She also realized that she was dressed in a completely black dress.

What’s this?” she thought while feeling around the elegant dress.

Just then she noticed her. The little girl was next to her, sitting on top of nothing as if it’d been a chair. She looked into the horizon and appeared to be crying, tears filling her eyes.

I don’t remember much from my childhood. I can only remember being unhappy mostly. The only time I ever was happy was when you were with us… Even for only so little time…. It was the only moment in my life I’ve ever… Been happy….” she spoke while a small tear ran down her cheek. “All this time… I always thought…. You’d return and save me… That you’d save me from myself and…”

Elfen moved closer and caressed her back “Go on… You can tell me…”

All this…. I don’t want to be the destroyer of everything… I want to be a normal girl… I want to live with you and….. And I want to just not harm anyone…” she whimpered.

Elfen continued to caress the little girl’s back “I… I understand…. But what can I do?”

Long moment of silence.

Amuse me,” the girl finally said.

As Elfen was about to ask what she meant, a knife sunk into her leg and nearly cut it off completely. Elfen screamed as she fell on her back, twitching in agony while holding her bleeding foot.

“What the hell are you doing?!!” she exclaimed.

The little girl laughed, “That’s funny!! How you twitch and scream and ooh that look on your face! It’s sooo funny! Did you really think I’d care for you?” she giggled as she wiped a small tear of laughter off her eye. “You’re just a low necromancer and guess whaaaat? There’s *NOTHING* here. Your powers are totally useless! You’re my living dolly and you’ll do what I want!”

I’m not a doll. I’ve gone through hell and I sure won’t let a spoiled brat like you abuse me now that I’ve finally avenged my parents… I’ve fought too hard, too long to let it all go,” Elfen spoke while she forced herself back on her legs.

The girl tilted her head and there came six butcher knives that cut Elfen all around her back. They danced all over her body and cut off her left arm. The pain forced Elfen to kneel but she managed to get back up on her feet while the blood painted her pretty dress into red. She stood with the torn dress and with wounds that would have made almost anyone beg for mercy.

How can you even stand?” the girl pondered out loud, as she tapped her cheek with a finger and looked Elfen up and down.

Elfen breathed hard and her vision was blurry as she spoke “Because I’ll never give up… Nothing you do would be worse than what I’ve gone through… Your puny little ‘torture’ makes me laugh…”

Ooo! Sounds like a challenge to me!” the Evil One giggled while she raised her arm and chanted few words.

Elfen tried to move to punch the girl but just then a knife cut both of her legs clean off and she fell down while blood shot from the stumps. Just then a noose descended out of nowhere and went over Elfen’s neck as the girl made a gesture and the noose started to raise Elfen making her begin to choke and hang.

The Evil One moved her hands around and the knives cut off pieces of Elfen. Her entire lower half was cut off as her innards were pulled out and as they slowly fell down, she became a mere torso with a hand and head. And yet…. She somehow…. Lived.

But just then the girl walked closer to Elfen “How’s this?” she said as she stabbed one knife into Elfen’s right eye so far in that even a little bit of the handle went inside. You could see the outline of the knife making the skin of Elfen’s forehead raise a little. You could see the outline of the knife, through Elfen's pale skin.

Elfen did no longer react. She did not move nor even breathe.

And just then, her healthy hand’s fingers twitched. Just weak twitches at first but they began to get faster and stronger as Elfen forced the arm back up. The Evil One stared in awe and admiration of how much sheer willpower the woman had. Was she immortal? Was sh…

Just then the guts, the blood, the bones, and everything that had come from Elfen attacked Evil One. They flowed over her, the blood boiling her, the bones stabbing her, the innards choking her… Elfen tried killing the Evil One with her very own body parts. The little girl tried to fight but albeit she was a destroyer, she was still physically a mere child. All the power in the world wouldn’t help her overcome that fact.

Her body was broken at every part and she was torn apart and turned inside out, as the mixture of both hers, and Elfen's gore mixed together to form a big sphere that splashed over Elfen, starting to recreate Elfen once more while several of the bones broke the noose and freed her.

As Elfen was being remade with the flesh and blood of both her own and the little girl’s, she couldn’t help but wonder one thing…

Everyone is dead. Her purpose to live is gone. All her friends and those who had stood by her side have either died or left her… What now?
