“A NEW START”

Chapter 3: Nothing to Lose

By

JaZaMe

How is she doing?” asks a voice inside her mind.

She seemed okay since she woke up this morning,” says Thana’s voice, “but about an hour ago she was suffering of vaginal bleeding, my vaccine healing abilities barely stopped it while she slept again, I also noticed she was dripping vaginal juice too, it appears that she is still hurt by…her suffering. I have to admit that for an instant I was…scared.”

“Some wounds can’t be health that easy, Thana. You may heal her physically, but her mind is still scarred. That is why I decided to do what I just said, if she accepts of course…Is a shame that such a cute Digimon had to suffer this way, I can’t actually digest that there’s still people that still treat Digimons like this.”

Her eyes open again as she feels the softness of one of the couch’s pillows under her head, the light comes through the window to her, enbrighting her and making her look like a sapphire jewel. She sees a figure covered on that light that was above her aside of the couch, can’t see it clearly, but she’s sure is a human. The figure seems to notice her waking up.

“Shhh, she’s waking up.” He voice said as she tries to see it, but the light is too bright. Notices then that the figure walks to the window and uses the curtains to block the excess of light falling upon them. And she is finally able to see…him.

He has an athletic shape, notable view by his jeans with a long-thin belt that hangs out at the end and his black shirt that showed his thin-muscular upper body. Long black hair that reaches the middle of his back tied up with a pair of black bands hardly visible; and a clean, handsome face with eyes like rubies and a smile drawed on him. She also notices the silver-golden-colored Digivice hanging on his left by the belt, which means that he was also a Digimon Tamer…thing that gives her some worries.

“Hi, Aqua.” He say to her, “my name is James, but you can call me ‘Yoshi’, if you want to.”

She is sure by then. Sure that his voice is just the one she heared at the park, that he is the one that rescued her from the rain. Remembering that instance when she felt the warmness inside the jacket as she fainted away.

But…What if…

A couple of hours passed as they all sit on the table and eat together with Aqua sitting at Yoshi’s right. She is impressed and at the same time ashamed inside by seeing such high quality in the plates with flower colored on them, the golden forks, spoons, and knifes, she almost feels like a tramp around all this, but her hunger is making her eat the smashed potatoes, corn, and pork steak until she feels full.

During that time she is also aware that Yoshi was, for some moments, looking at her with a smile on his face, or discussing with Uma about of a new training site where they could practice more freely. She is shy about talking to him, first because she does not know him aside of the fact that he rescued her, although he seemed kind and Thana talks about him with admiration.

But she’s still thinking.

After dinner was over, James and Uma cleaned the dishes while Thana shows Aqua where she will sleep. They passes through a tall door that leads them into a hall that has seven doors, four of them are in a circle facing eachother. There’s a door at the top with a long string attached to it that brings down the ladder to the attic and the observatory where she regularly sits to see the starts at night.

“These doors are the main bedrooms,” says Thana, “those two on the left are mine and Uma’s, the one at the far-right is Yoshi’s.”

Both of them walked then to the last door as she says, “and this one will be your room.”

And the doors open showing its interiors. The space is considerable, adorned with the most exotic colors and paintings along the walls and columns at the corners; the window is covered with refined curtains in red with practically golden ropes attached to them. One long and one short couches at one side nearthe window and a stoll near a tall looking glass close to a door at the right side of the room. Then she looks at the bed amazed by the selection of red tones and plenty of room for three persons, when she touches the blankets knew that are of a very good quality, and she almost fall asleep when she climbed up and feels the soft and fresh pillows contrasting with her blue skin, but then she hears Thana’s voice telling her that Yoshi will come in a while to talk with her, Aqua thinks that it might be about her and Marika, afraid of what he might say…or what he might do with her.

* * * * * * * * *

Is almost eight o’clock, the snow has stop falling leaving a clear sky in orange and deep blue as the sun falls on the horizont between the hills with the refreshing air blowing from the east.

Aqua is sitting at the observatory, right above the bedrooms looking sometimes into the lights of the sunset setting on the hills and sometimes paying some attention in the training between Thana and Uma, he playing the defensive and she the offensive, attacking and dodging eachothers moves for almost half an hour, then pausing for a couple of minutes and then switching modes, they seemed to be happy together, althou Uma was an Ultimate, he did not seem bad at all, different from all the kind of opponets she was forced to battle.

“Come on, slowpoke” Thana usually says to Uma everytime he misses, “is that the best you can do?”

“Oh yeah, try this.” Uma responds while launching different types of kicks but Thana still dodges them all, then he launchs a low kick to her left leg making her fall back, not before she grabs his right arm and pulls him to fall too on top of her, his face just centimeters over her chest. Looking at her eyes as she cares the hair covering his bright-brown eyes with one hand, both seems to be lost in the moment.

“You shouldn’t be so confident on your speed.” Uma says to Thana, “I made you fall too easy.”

He then tries to get up. But Thana holds him with her left arm and the back of his head, stopping him.

“And you shouldn’t be with your aim, either.” She responds, “You missed.”

“What are you talking about?, I…

Uma is silented when her hand guides him to falls into a deep kiss, slowly starting to embrase eachother as the sun starts to vanished between the hills. Aqua staring to pay more attention to them than to the sunset, thinking about the feeling of such closeness.

“Looks like you’re enjoying the view from here,” sounds a voice behind her catching her by surprise. Is Yoshi sitting on a chair a couple of feet behind her with a ‘Milk 2 Go’ bottle on his hand. “Dinner is ready, Chicken soup with rice, just as you asked.”

How did he got up here?” thinks Aqua in her mind, “the stairs make noises every time I go up here, how did he came without making noises?”

“I brought you this.” Yoshi says as he gives the ‘Milk 2 Go’ bottle to her, she looking at it, “is good for your bones, specially after the trainings, and a good source of Calcium.”

Aqua still thinks as he then walk to her side and yells at Thana and Uma about the dinner, remembering then what Yoshi was talking with her earlier that day, thinking about what she will do from there on.

* * * * * * * * *

“Hi.” She hears Yoshi’s voice at the bedroom’s door still laying on the bed almost sleepy. She quickly stands up and gets off the bed very nervous.

“Calm down, I’m not going to hurt you.” He says as he slowly approaches to her. She still feeling uneasy with his presence, even thou he is the one who saved her from the rain.

He decides to sit on the floor in front of her, still distant, thinking that he may gain her trust easier. Aqua take a couple of steps back holding from the window’s curtains, still uncertain if she could trust him.

But didn’t she thought about it before? Shouldn’t she give him a chance to reach her? After all he saved her from a certain slow-painful death, and brought her into his house where she got food and shelter, was not that enough to show her that he doesn’t want to hurt her?

But wasn’t that also how her life with Marika started also?, first being the best friends in the whole wide world, then everything was shattered in just one night?

“Listen,” Yoshi says then, “you don’t know me, neither I know you, but I just want you to know that I’m here to help you.”

She remains silence, not able to find any kind of words that may express what she is thinking by now. Yoshi still talking to her.

“I don’t know a thing of what happened between you and your Tamer I just can ‘assume’ things, and maybe there’s nothing I can do to change that, but no Digimon deserves to suffer this kind of things and…

“I do.” Suddently says Aqua, interrupting Yoshi.

“…Pardon?”

“I…deserve this…I do.”

“Excuse me, but I don’t think that…

“I DO!” yells Aqua holding from and hiding her face on the curtains, “I…I deserved it!…I can’t!…I can’t digivolve anymore!…I lost every battle over and over again!…I…I…

She falls to her kness still holding the curtains, hiding her face with them while she lets her tears go, remembering those unforgiven moments that Marika made her pass throughout the years. She does not sense Yoshi approaching to her and sitting once again on the floor, hearing her whispers through the curtain.

“I’m sorry.” She says in a weak voice, “Marika, I’m sorry…I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.”

She still don’t see Yoshi placing himself closer and with one hand moves the curtains to let them reveal her covering her face with her small hands. She slowly takes her hands off and see his eyes, different from those of…Marika.

There is some similarities in the way he looked at her, but at the same time is different from…Marika. Like if there was something that never was before, and that makes her feel better.

Those eyes like two bright rubies feels so sincere, she feels the honesty by just looking into those handsome eyes that she has seen before on someone else but did not feel the same. This gives her enough trust to then fall into his chest with her arms holding him, still feeling sadness in her for remembering everything about Marika in that minute. He just surrounding her with his left arms and then stroking her back with his right, letting her throw out every pain she has been keeping inside while she buries her face on his shirt.

“Shhh, that’s it.” Constantly says Yoshi, “Let it all out, there’s nothing wrong with it, sshhhh.”

“I wanted to digivolve.” Continues Aqua between cries, “I wanted to win the match, but she was yelling at me, I asked her to use the three Digicards she was allowed to use but she wasn’t listening, and I was stunned by the opponent’s ‘Paralizing Virus’ Card…and when that Agumon digivolved into Wargreymon, I was scare and barely able to move as he throwed to me a ‘Terra Force’…she said it was all my fault, all of it. And then she…she…

She remains silence, resuming her tears that falls into Yoshi’s shirt, listening to his word:

“That was not your fault Aqua, none of this is; and you don’t deserve this either…

“But I lost the match, the money…my friend…

“Is not your fault!” yells Yoshi to her trying to control his emotions. He fells that this actions is scaring Aqua, so he tries t control himself, “You never thought something like this will even happen between you and her, didn’t you?”

She isn’t quite understanding where is he going with all this, but she answers:

“Y…yes…”

“You two were best friends, weren’t you?”

She nods with her head.

“And she will do anything to protect you, right?”

“…I don’t know.”

“And she will be your friend over all?”

“…I…don’t know.”

Yoshi remains silent for a couple of minutes as she keeps crying on him, thinking all of this through before saying anything else that may hurt her more.

Aqua’s cry slowly stops as she feels Yoshi’s now wet shirt becoming warm, the same warm sensation that she felt when he took her out of the rain under his umbrella and jacket. She lifts her face to him, still resting her head on his chest as the sun enters the room illuminating its interiors, looking into his eyes.

“Listen, your Tamer got rib of you because she didn’t see the things the same way as you do. You really cared about your friendship with her, but she is the one who took this without any care. I can only assume as I said, but I just want you to know that I can help you, to overcome this disaster and to continue with your life, start a new one.”

“You mean, that I have to…

“No, you must not. I can help you, but only if you want me to.”

“But, how?”

“I can start by letting you join my Dgmn-Team, so that I can let you officialy stay in this house, since your Tamer’s Digivice has been destroyed, you are technically in ‘Wild’ status, and the rules does not allow me to have a Wild digimon in my house.”

“But, a human can have just two.”

Yoshi reaches his silvered-golden Digivice from his belt and shows it to Aqua, shining with the sunlight of the window (Similar to thoes in “Dgmn Tamers ”).

“This is a special Digivice. I won it on a tournament in America, it allows me to have as many Dgmn partners as I want as long as I can maintain them. Since you’re now in Wild status, you can join my team if you truly want to.”

She looks as the Digivice for some seconds, thinkings this through, unsure if this is what she must do, but what else was left? Nothing but a dark path that doesn’t seems to lead anywhere but a sad end.

“I…”

“I know how it feels to be alone.” Interrupted Yoshi, she looking at his eyes again. “Any idea of why I’m called ‘Yoshi’?…I lived most of my life in an Orphanage House, I never knew who my parents were or why I ended there, I lived there with other kids that slowly one by one left the place with their new parents…until I was alone for almost a month with no one to play with. Then one day a Koromon sneaked inside trying to find some food, when I found it he was almost starving to death, so I feed him and decided to keep him even thou I did not have a Digivice, and we became good friends. When I finally was adopted and we moved to our new home, I decided that one day I’ll be able to do what I can to help every Digimon in the world, because before I found Koromon, I thought also that Digimons were toys to play with, but during the time I lived with him I realized that Digimons are equal to humans. That is why I want to help you.”

“But, how can I…be equal…to you?” Asks Aqua after hearing his story but curious about his concept about Humans and Digimons, because those thought were quite much different from the ideas she got from her past Tamer.

Yoshi then reaches her left hand, placing it on her chest slowly letting her feel the warmness of his hand. In that instant, she feels something that she did not feel ever before.

There is something in her, something that she seems to never have felt before. There is something inside her chest that is moving, for a moments she was scare of what might be what is inside her, but then she remembers have heard something about it, but that she did not knew she possibly have.

“What do you feel?” says Yoshi to her, insecurity on her face as she tried to figure this through. Is then that she might know the answer.

“My…my heart.” She responds unsure. She sees Yoshi nods telling her that she is indeed right.

After a few moments for her to understand this, Yoshi uses his arms to place Aqua close to his chest once again. There Aqua feels the same movements that comes from within his chest.

“Now?” Asks Yoshi, “What do you feel?”

“Your…your heart.” Is then that Aqua realized qhere Yoshi was going. And he finalizes.

“See. We are equal.”

She has not thinking of something like this, neither the fact that she has a heart within her. There was a reason for which she did know anything like this for a long time…Marika. During the time she lived with her she have not talked about it, she was just concentrated on the matches and thinking on the kind of card to use for an easier victory, she was too busy thinking about battles to explain her about such simple things.

Aqua then hugs him, remaining silent but thankful for telling her about something that she has not knew before and that for some reason meant much for her, feeling that there was, at least…a reason.

* * * * * * * * * *

“Aqua?” she hears then Yoshi’s voice behind her, returning to the moment at the observatory. The sun was finally gone from the sky while at the opposite side dark clouds coming with a cold wind and signs of a second snow storm was coming. “Better get inside now, the snow will start falling again any minute now, and the dinner will get cold.”

She get up the floor and walks toward him going down the stairs following him. When both of them are back at the round hall she stops for a minute as Yoshi opens the main door.

“Uh…Yoshi?” she says stoping Yoshi from keep walking, turning back to her.

“Yes, Aqua?”

“I…I’ve been thinking about it…and…I want to answer you now.”

“Okay, so, what have you decided?”

There is a long silence within the moment, there’s only the sound of the wind coming down from the ladder, the light of the starts entering from the windows around them.

She is still unsure about her answer, but there are things that she has been thinking, for instance, what could she do if she says ‘no’, she will possibly have to live out in the cold until someone wanted to take her to their home…or worse, go back to Marika; which not an option is because she must think by now that she is dead, and she has no desire to go back to her anymore.

Now if she decided to say ‘yes’, she might enter into either the same kind of trouble here than with Marika or worse…or she might go into a state of beginning again. Starting all over again for a better life, to leave all of that suffering behind, making a new start for her…and besides, there is nothing left for her to lose and everything to gain then, maybe is worth to stay, perhaps not, but from all the people she met before; he is in a strange way better, not only that, but something more…

“I…say…yes, I want to join your team.”

“Because?” Complemented Yoshi.

“Because…I want to live, I want to be strong…and I want to live here, with you…to end this suffering, forever, and to continue with my life.”

“And you will, Aqua. Thank you for joining my team. But for now lets go, probably Uma and Thana started dinner without us.” Says Yoshi is a sarcastic way, making Aqua smile for the first time since she has been here, following him closely as they leave the room for dinner…that if there’s anything left

“Yoshi.” Aqua says as they walk together through the hall.

“Yes?”

“…Thank you…”
