New Threat, New Adventure

Ch 2: Unfulfilled Promises

By: Hazan_Z

After meeting up with Indramon, Leomon discovered that his shrouded past that he’d chosen to forget was gaining up on him. A difficult choice was bestowed upon the lionman, a choice that he yet had to take, but choosing either would make him commit the biggest mistake of his life. Furthermore, BlackWarGreymon, too, was connected to Leomon’s ordeal, and he was planning to do something about it as well. What path will Leomon take? And what will BlackWarGreymon have in mind for what’s to come?

########################

“So… Leomon was one of them too, huh? That’s interesting…” BlackWarGreymon thought to himself, standing on the top the rooftop of his own mansion just after he came back from the mountain range after that fateful meeting between Leomon and Indramon, and way before Leomon had returned yet that night. He was thinking deeply about the matter that those two Digimon spoke of earlier and understood what kind of hell Leomon would be going through.

“Poor guy… he must be so confused right now. I wonder if he’ll… no, he wouldn’t. He can’t leave us. But… knowing him, he might … he’s not the type who’d ignore such a critical matter without doing anything, especially after knowing about it. I know I wouldn’t. But if he does decide to go after them, that means he’ll have to do it alone and won’t tell anyone about it. That’ll surely break Renamon’s heart, and Chris’ too…” BlackWarGreymon kept thinking deeply. He just realized how much he cared for his dear friend and that he actually knew him better than he thought he did. He really felt for Leomon and wished if he there was a way to help him.

“DAMN! This is SO frustrating! Why am I thinking about it right now anyway!? I’m so damn tired… I’ll just crash for now. But he better not think about doing anything stupid soon, or else I’ll deal with him myself. Even if I have to travel there on my own.” BlackWarGreymon irritably punched his fist on his own palm and with that said, he resolved to head back inside his mansion and call it a night, considering taking action after seeing what Leomon’s decision would be.

The very next day, Leomon found himself waking up from a long and tiresome sleep as the bright sunshine hit his face through the open window. The bright light caused his eyes to squint when he opened them and urged him to get up at last, feeling rather groggy; which was expected since he usually woke up every day before the sun had even risen. He then happened to notice that Renamon wasn’t by his side or around the bedroom, and figured that she was already up somewhere around the house. He didn’t know why, but he missed his beloved vixen and so wanted to see her right now. He still felt a bit sluggish though, so he sought to have himself a much-needed shower to freshen himself up for starters.

After having a refreshing wash, Leomon headed straight to the kitchen and to his delight, found Renamon preparing breakfast. She seemed to be in a good mood, humming a lovely tune to herself as she was making the table. He could see that she was wearing a pink apron even though she had her back turned to him and then he silently approached her from behind so she could not sense him; her too occupied by her humming and her work to notice him. When she was near enough to his reach, he wrapped his arms around her side and surprised her with an embrace.

“Oh! Goodness, Leomon, you startled me!” Renamon gasped softly from the surprising hug, but then started to giggle when the lion’s muzzle met her cheek and kissed it tenderly. “Mm, and good morning to you too.”

“Why didn’t you wake me up sooner?” he asked as he brought her closer to him.

“Um, you looked so exhausted, so I left you asleep some more to fully rest,” she replied and twisted herself around between his arms to face him. She blushed dimly, seeing how he was nude except for a towel around his lower body, and was still evidently wet. “My, can’t you at least dry and dress up properly? We’re having breakfast in a few.”

“Maybe I don’t want to have breakfast,” Leomon said with a small grin and reached out to her back with a hand, untying the knot of her apron with a swift flip of a claw and letting it drop smoothly to the floor. He then lifted her up with ease and sat her up on the edge of the table, leaning his muzzle down to hers and pulling her into a full-on make-out. Renamon pulled herself off of him and ended the deep kiss when she felt him gaining an erection under his towel.

“Now?” she looked up at him questionably. Leomon simply nodded to her and went back to kissing her again; now more passionately as his hands slid down to caress her thighs and rump. But as much as Renamon wanted to please her aroused lover, she couldn’t grant him his wish and parted her lips from his muzzle once more.

“Settle down, honey. We can’t do this now, someone might come in,” Renamon stated softly and Leomon looked sorely disappointed. “Oh, don’t feel bad. I’ll be ready for you anytime you want, except for now of course.” She giggled and traced his chest with a paw, trying to comfort him. But Leomon face turned grim when she said that, instantly remembering his encounter with Indramon. Renamon noticed this sudden discomfort of his and brought a gentle paw to his cheek.

“What’s the matter?”

Hm? Uh, nothing.”

“But you look troubled. Oh, I’m sorry. I was so mean to you…”

“Oh, no. It’s not that. I’m just… hungry.” Leomon shook his head to her and faked a smile to hide his anxiety. Renamon smiled back and nuzzled his maw playfully.

“Well then, you better go and dress up. Breakfast will be ready in a sec, and it’s your favorite too!” she cheerfully announced and Leomon did his best to crack a smile.

“I’m sure it’ll be great.” He rubbed her cheek with his big hand, staring gently into her eyes. His mind was deeply struggling about what he should do, and every time he laid his eyes on hers that were like dazzling blue orbs, it made it even much more harder for him to even think he should leave. He promised her, more than once, that he’d never leave her alone. But now, he wasn’t sure if he’d ever be able to keep that promise.

“Something’s wrong on my face?” Renamon spoke and brought him back from his deep thoughts.

“Huh? Oh, not at all. You just look lovely,” Leomon flatteringly said to scare away any doubts.

Aww, you’re so sweet. But save the sweet talk for later, hm?” she winked at him and he chuckled lightly by that, before he finally went off to dry up and change to his usual wares so they could finally have breakfast. Unfortunately, neither knew that this would be the last breakfast they’d ever enjoy having together.

At that time, Angewomon paid a visit to her dear BlackWarGreymon to wake him up like she often did. She was expecting to find him still asleep like he always was, so she was surprised to see that he was fully awake when she went straight to his bedroom, him sitting by the edge of his king-sized bed in a thinking state.

“Oh, morning Angie.” BlackWarGreymon greeted her when he saw her coming in.

“No way! You’re up early! You can’t be Black! Where is he!? What have you done to him!?” Angewomon exclaimed with a gasp, joking of course.

BlackWarGreymon just smiled sheepishly back at her. “I dunno, but he said he’d ran off with another girl,” he replied humorously with a shrug and then received a hard poke in the arm from her.

“That’s not even half funny,” she frowned.

Ow! Easy! Why is it that everyone like to poke me around like a boxing bag?” he complained, rubbing his sore arm.

“Because of your lame jokes. Anyway, this is a first. You’re not usually up at this hour. What’s wrong?”

“Why do you presume that there has to be something wrong? Can’t I just wake up early like everyone else?”

“Duh! Of course you can’t. We’re talking about you here. Come on, what did you do?”

“I didn’t do anything! Leomon’s the one who-” BlackWarGreymon’s tongue was about to slip and tell her about what happened yesterday, but he immediately shut up.

Hm? What did Leomon do?” Angewomon asked curiously.

“Nothing, nothing at all…” he muttered. “I meant to say… I need to see Leomon about something.”

“Oh, about what?”

Uhh… something personal. A guys’ thing,” BlackWarGreymon timidly replied. “Will you come with me?” Angewomon paused for a moment, noticing how unusually weird BlackWarGreymon was acting.

“Sure. But…” Angewomon answered and then trailed off.

“But?”

“Black, are you hiding something from me?” she bluntly asked. BlackWarGreymon was a bit overtaken by her question, but he knew that Angewomon was much more sharper than to get fooled easily. Yet, he couldn’t reveal anything about what happened to Leomon yesterday.

“Would I even dare?” he simply bared a smugly smile. Angewomon giggled and felt a bit easy, believing him.

“Okay then. I’ll wait for you downstairs while you freshen up. Don’t take long, ‘BIG’ Black,” Angewomon whispered, emphasizing on the word ‘big’, as she leaned down to his face, placing her hands on both sides of his cheeks and kissing his nose.

Heh, with how ‘big’ I am, I’m sure I will, luv.” BlackWarGreymon grinned and returned her soft kiss with another on her lips. Nevertheless, how long would he able to keep the secret from Angewomon, was something he wasn’t certain about.

##############################

Back to Renamon’s place, after her and Leomon had finished their breakfast, they got a visit from Leomon’s partner, Chris. The glasses-wearing youth knocked on the door three times and entering when he heard Renamon’s voice telling him to come in.

“Hi Chris! Breakfast?” Renamon kindly offered when Chris entered the kitchen.

“Uh, no thanks. Already had my fill back home.”

“Aw, too bad. Oh, guess what? Leomon fixed his sword!” the fox then excitedly announced.

“For real? Great, lemme see…” Chris said in intrigue and Leomon pulled out his sword for his partner to see. “Ah, most excellent! Sharp as a razor. Congrats, Leo!”

“Thanks.” Leomon smiled pleasingly, although he was hurting badly from the inside. Chris was another obstacle that stood between him and his decision to leave to confront his past. He was sure that if he ever abandoned them, Chris would be more than saddened, since he considered him more than his best friend. He was his partner that he had chosen, and they had gone through a lot together, both good and bad. He couldn’t simply forsake all of that this easily. Though, they had been spending less time with each other recently, with Chris busy attending his family at the real world and Leomon moving in with Renamon; thus Chris wanting to give them some space. But that gave Leomon an idea.

Renamon, can we skip today’s training lessons?” Leomon turned to the yellow fox and requested.

“But why?”

“I want to have a little stroll in the woods with my partner, if you don’t mind. How about it, Chris? Are you free?”

“Certainly. Come to think if it, we haven’t been spending much time hanging out together. I’d love that, that is, if the Miss doesn’t mind,” Chris replied and they switched their attention to Renamon.

“Oh, of course I don’t mind. I’m not hogging him for myself!” she pouted jokingly and caused them chuckle. “Let me just prepare a lunch basket for you two, ok?” Renamon then suggested and they both gestured appreciatively to her before she went to fix it up for them. The two partners sought to wait for her outside and as they exited through the front door, they quickly ran into BlackWarGreymon and Angewomon, who were just about to knock on the door.

“Hey you two! Hm? Going somewhere?” BlackWarGreymon asked.

“Indeed we are. We’re going to a picnic, just Leo and me. What brings you here though?” Chris questioned back.

“Black here says he wants ask Leomon about some ‘guy’ stuff,” Angewomon answered, nudging BlackWarGreymon with her elbow. The two partners focused their attention back to BlackWarGreymon, the black mega sweating nervously, as he didn’t expect to meet up with Chris.

“Err… oh, yeah! I… uh… wanted to see you about… something, Leomon…” BlackWarGreymon began to mumble coyly.

“Yes?” Leomon patiently wondered.

“It’s about… well…” BlackWarGreymon stalled for a bit, before a plan found its way into his head. “Ah, yes! Since you’re my good friend, and because it’s been exactly a year since you became a resident of our humble town, I’m throwing a party in your honor!” BlackWarGreymon announced gloriously, stunning everyone that were present.

“That’s the ‘guys’ thing? And I thought it was something more… ‘organic’,” Angewomon sneered and BlackWarGreymon glared at her.

“And what do you MEAN by that!?” BlackWarGreymon glowered.

“Uh, that’s really nice of you, Black. But I can’t-” Leomon tried to decline, but BlackWarGreymon cut in before he was able to finish.

“No, no, no,” he waved a finger. “Nothing is too much for my dear bud. You deserve the very best. Besides, it’s nothing exaggerated. Just a little gathering between our little gang at my place.” BlackWarGreymon continued to persuade the lionman, who was still not sure about this.

Oooh, I think it’s a wonderful idea!” Renamon suddenly sprung out of the house, apparently already knowing about this party idea BlackWarGreymon came up with. “Come on, Leomon, it’ll be great!”

“I agree. You did a lot for us all, the least we could do is honoring you in a suitable way,” Angewomon agreeably added.

“That’s true. You should give yourself a pat on the back sometimes. And I’m sure Hasan and Goma would like the idea.” Chris encouraged Leomon with a nice pat on arm. Leomon was extremely overwhelmed by all of this, he actually felt guilty. They all loved and believed in him, but he felt that he wasn’t worthy of that love or trust. He couldn’t refuse the offer, though, and he didn’t have a choice but to accept, seeing this as a good opportunity to see all his close friends and silently bid them farewell, should he ever decide to leave.

“Alright… thank you all. And thanks, Black. I owe you one,” Leomon spoke in gratitude, smiling.

“No problem, Leomon...” BlackWarGreymon smiled back at him. Renamon then pulled him in by the arm in excitement.

“Well then, here’s your lunch basket! Everything will be ready by the time you get back. Let’s go Blacky! You too, Angie!” the female fox handed the basket to Chris and got between BlackWarGreymon and Angewomon, dragging them both with her to BlackWarGreymon’s mansion for the preparation of the little party.

Heh, she sure gets exited fast. Should we go, Leo?” Chris looked up at his Digimon

“Yes.” Leomon simply nodded and went off with his partner outside the town’s district for their special picnic.

###################################

As their friends were arranging the party at BlackWarGreymon’s mansion, Chris and Leomon were leisurely walking around the woods near the DigimonTown. They were mostly quiet along the way; both of them not being much of the talkative type, they were enjoying each other’s company nonetheless. Lot of things were actually going around Leomon’s mind, specially about the decision he had to take. He so wanted to tell everyone about this trauma he was suffering, but he couldn’t. He didn’t want to get any of his friends involved in this, because he knew that they would be in danger if they ever did.

“That looks like a nice spot,” Leomon heard his partner speak all of the sudden in the middle of his thoughts.

“What?”

“There, near the river. We can set the picnic right there near the water.” Chris pointed over bushes at the long river that was running quietly across the forest.

“Oh, yes. Let’s go.” Leomon nodded and led the way to said river, Chris following him closely. They sat down by the edge of the stream and began to enjoy the little meal Renamon had made for them in the basket.

“Boy, Renamon makes delicious cookies and riceballs,” Chris complimentarily stated as he ate some of the food.

“Yeah, she’s the best,” Leomon agreed with a pleased smile.

“Oh is she?” Chris chuckled, “What else is she good at?” he questioned his partner, teasing, and Leomon’s cheeks bore a shade of red.

“Uh, well… you know…”

Heh, you’re face is saying it all.” Chris laughed by Leomon’s blushing. “So, are you happy, Leomon?”

Wh-What do you mean?” Leomon blinked at the unexpected question.

“I mean how things are coming along for you. Living in a Digimon-filled town, having your friends around you, and moving in with the one you love. You weren’t used to that kind of living, right?” Leomon listened in silence as Chris was explaining, feeling quite awkward, as if Chris knew something about what his being through right now.

“Are you happy with how your life is going?” Chris asked again. Leomon didn’t answer right away and paused for a few seconds, staring mildly at the running water in front of him. He then tilted his head to face Chris and smiled.

“Yes. Very much so,” Leomon finally answered in content.

“That’s great to know. If you’re happy, then I’m happy. I’m just sorry about not being around much lately…” Chris said sadly.

“Don’t be, it’s okay,” Leomon comforted him and placed a hand on his partner’s shoulder.

“Thanks, Leomon. Things will get better soon, hopefully. I’m sure,” Chris said with a satisfied beam and looked up at the lion-Digimon, who barely was able to return the smile. “Is something wrong?”

“Oh, no… let’s just enjoy the picnic while we can.” Leomon suggested after a headshake.

“Right, we have a party waiting for us!” Chris eagerly added, as Leomon simply nodded back and tried to show his excitement as best as he could, forgetting about taking any kind of decisions for now.

#######################################

Later that afternoon, the group was at BlackWarGreymon’s house, enjoying the party they had thrown together for Leomon’s honor. Everyone seemed to have a good time, eating fine food and drinking all sorts of drinks. Everyone except for Leomon, who was standing by himself next to the dining table and pouring a glass of red wine for himself. He took a tiny sip from his glass and then glanced over at where the others were gathering, all of them seemingly enjoying the party and looking happy. He thought how he would surely miss seeing them like that, and more importantly, being able to share that joy with them But, did he really have to leave? There was still that other choice, the choice to just forget about his past and live this new life he’d grew so much to like. To ignore about those who Indramon had warned him about, and also, ignore Elecmon, a Digimon he once used to consider a friend.

“No, I can’t,” Leomon muttered to himself, slamming the glass of wine on the table. He had realized that he didn’t have a choice after all. He couldn’t simply forget about all of this, not after they had been resurrected from the past. And what truly concerned Leomon the most, was what Indramon said before he left.

Moreover, there’s the possibility that ‘they’ may come here eventually, and by then, whoever you care about won’t be safe either…

Those words rang inside Leomon’s head repeatedly. That possibility that Indramon mentioned was something that Leomon never wanted to happen, and if he was forced to leave with no return and prevent it from happening, then it was a risk he was willing to take.

Leomon?”

Hm? Oh, hi Angie,” Leomon replied when he heard Angewomon calling for him by his side.

“Why aren’t enjoying the party? We prepared it just for you. Are you sick?” Angewomon asked in concern.

“No, I’m fine.”

“Are you sure? You look sorta pale…” she placed a gentle hand on his cheek.

“It’s nothing, really,” he reassured to her with a small smile. “You go right ahead and have fun.”

“Maybe I’d like to stay with you for bit instead. It’s been a while since we had a little chatter of our own, hm?” Angewomon smiled and held his hand that was holding the glass of drink, clanging it lightly with her glass. “How’s Renamon’s training coming along?” she inquired after taking a sip from her drink.

“She’s improving, slowly, but steadily. And she’s not whining as much,” Leomon leered and Angewomon giggled.

“Oh, I’m sure she won’t be so thrilled to hear that!”

Heh, yeah. Don’t tell her I said so.”

“Of course not. You know you can always trust me with anything, Leomon,” Angewomon looked up at him with a sweet smile.

“Indeed…” Leomon breathed softly, staring down at Angewomon’s beautiful face. No one else he knew matched that perfect combination of beauty and sensibility that Angewomon had. That led him to ask her a daring question.

Angewomon… I want to ask you something, but I want a sincere answer,” Leomon began.

“Oh? Okay… What is it?” Angewomon wondered in intrigue.

“What would you do if… if you were given a choice between two things, and either way you choose, you’d end up regretting it for the rest of your life? What would you do?” Leomon’s question puzzled Angewomon so much, she didn’t know if she had the right answer. She wondered if he was going through something similar. She thought about what to say for some moments, before finally speaking.

“I’ll just do what I believe is the right and best thing to do. No matter what happens, I’ll just follow my heart. That all there’s to it, at least for me,” Angewomon answered. Leomon took what she had just said into consideration and saw that she was right. He just had to follow his heart, regardless of what would happen. Thus, that was all what Leomon needed to know to finally take his decision.

“You’re right… Thank you, Angie. You’re wonderful.” Leomon smiled and placed his hands on her shoulders, pulling her into his chest and then hugging her gently.

“You’re… welcome…” Angewomon muttered coyly as she was hugged by the lionman, a bit confused by his odd behaviors.

“Hey! Just ‘cuz this I threw this party for you, doesn’t mean you can have my womon too!” BlackWarGreymon sneered as he interrupted the intimate moment Leomon and Angewomon were sharing. “Not that I really mind, but then you won’t mind if I have your lovely lady for a few private moments, eh?” grinned BlackWarGreymon.

“In your dreams, big dope,” Angewomon pouted in response.

“Ah, getting jealous now, are we? And it’s ‘Big Black’, luv.”

“Sounds the same to me,” Angewomon shrugged.

Heh, sorry Black. I’ll go see the others,” Leomon chuckled and excused himself to go and meet the rest of his friends.

“Black… did something happen to Leomon?” Angewomon asked BlackWarGreymon all of the sudden when they were left alone.

“Why… would you say that?” BlackWarGreymon wondered, getting slightly worried.

“Well, he’s acting kinda strange. As if he has a lot in his mind. He also asked me something that disturbed me a bit…”

“What did he say?”

“Something about… choosing between two difficult choices, and I just told him to follow his heart. He suddenly seemed to be relived and hugged me gently,” she continued as BlackWarGreymon listened in interest, knowing exactly what she was referring to.

“I see…”

“Why? Do you know something about this, Black?” Angewomon questioned him determinedly.

“How’d I know what’s in that lion’s head? Let’s just keep the lid on this for now, all right? Otherwise we’d worry the others,” BlackWarGreymon denied and then advised her to keep this from the rest of the group. Angewomon wasn’t totally convinced by this; both of BlackWarGreymon and Leomon were acting strange since this morning. But she saw some light in what BlackWarGreymon suggested and didn’t want to spoil the party.

“C’mon, Angie! Don’t be like that. Everything is fine, I’m sure. Now give me that beautiful smile of yours,” BlackWarGreymon comforted her with a side beam of his.

“Okay.” She drew a pretty smile on her face. “Just promise me that you’ll talk to Leomon and see is there’s anything wrong with him. Please.”

“You got it, ma’am. Jeez, with how much you’re worried about him, I’d think that you still have a crush on him…” BlackWarGreymon griped, getting a bit envious by her concern over Leomon.

“Oh silly you. I already have my big Black and don’t need anyone else.” Angewomon giggled and placed her arms around his neck, pulling his down for a sweet kiss on the muzzle, which he returned gladly.

“And how’s our Digimon of honor doing today? Enjoying the party?” Hasan cheerfully spoke as Leomon joined his friends.

“Yes.” Smiled Leomon.

“Hmm, you don’t look like it.” Gomamon cocked his head. “Oh, yeah! We heard about the good news! Show us your enhanced sword, Leomon!” the little seal Digimon excitedly said and was bouncing up to take a peek at Leomon’s sword.

“Ok, ok, hang on…” Leomon pulled out his sword and handed it to Gomamon, who was barely able to hold the heavy blade and dropped flat on the floor.

Oof! Much too… heavy!”

“Oh, be careful, Gomamon. You’ll hurt yourself,” Renamon giggled and rescued Gomamon by picking up the sword. She lifted it up high with ease and gave it a fast swing, Gazimon quickly ducking his head to avoid the slash.

Ack! Watch where you wave that thing! You’ll decapitate someone with it!” Gazimon yelped.

“Oops! Sorry! I guess I don’t know my own strength,” Renamon muttered diffidently and returned the sword to Leomon.

“That’s obvious. Training under Leomon’s hands has given you the needed boost!” Fairymon stated optimistically.

“Yup, you said it, Fairy. Practice makes perfect, as they say. Now we don’t have about her getting beaten up easily,” Hasan nodded agreeably, before he received a whack in the head from Renamon. “Ow!”

“I only get overpowered by high-leveled Digimon, that’s all! How do you except me to beat Ultimate or Mega leveled monsters!?” frowned the fox.

Heh, that’s where you can rely on Leomon and Black to come for the rescue,” chuckled Chris.

“Right! Those two kick serious ass!” Gomamon added.

“Mm-hm! Leomon always seems to show up at the right time!” Renamon chirped and hugged one of Leomon’s arms.

“Uh, well, I try…” mumbled the lionman timidly. “You’ll be fine with or without me. You’ll always have your partner by your side, and Black is more than enough to protect everyone,” Leomon then continued, puzzling the rest of them as they stared at him with a weird look.

“What do you mean by that?” Renamon asked worriedly.

“N-Nothing… I just meant…”

“He’s just trying to be modest, the humble cat,” BlackWarGreymon cut in and placed an arm over Leomon’s shoulder. “Ain’t that right, Leomon?” BlackWarGreymon winked at Leomon, as Leomon blinked a bit in response. He was slowly having the suspicion that BlackWarGreymon was onto him from the start, but he wasn’t sure how would he have known. But he shook that feeling off anyway and just smiled back at his Mega friend.

“Right.” Nodded the lionman.

Alrighty then! This party is just starting to get kicking! Who’s up for some food, prepared by yours truly!?” BlackWarGreymon announced and succeeded in diverting everyone’s attention away from Leomon and his unusual behavior, much to Leomon’s relief. He resolved to enjoy the rest of the party and the company of his loved ones as much as he could, because by midnight, he’d be saying goodbye to all of them, and most likely for good.

####################################

“Sure was a fun. Thanks for the fine party, guys,” Hasan said, standing by the front door of Renamon’s house later that night after the party was over at BlackWarGreymon’s mansion.

“How about you stay for the night with us?” Renamon then suggested to both of Hasan and Chris.

“Oh, no, I can’t. I have to go back home, you know, the usual,” Hasan unfortunately declined.

Aww, come one! You haven’t been staying with us much anymore,” complained Renamon.

“Yeah, why not!? I wanna stay!” Gomamon joined her, hanging over his partner’s shoulder.

“I’d love to, but my folks need me. Sorry. What about you Chris?”

“Uh, well, okay. I already told my parents that I might be late, so they’d sure figure that I’ll be staying at a friend’s place,” replied Chris.

“Great, you can keep Gomamon with you then,” Hasan said and he handed Gomamon over to his friend.

Yay! Thanks, Chris!” Gomamon cheered in joy between Chris’ arms.

“Alright then, but next time you’ll not get away this easily!” Renamon warned her partner.

Heh, sure thing.” chuckled Hasan, before Leomon patted him gently on the head.

“Take care,” Leomon merely uttered with a smile.

“Um, thanks, Leo. See you all later!” Hasan waved to them as he took his leave. As they were waving back at him, Chris felt Leomon’s hand resting on his shoulder and he tilted his head to face Leomon smiling at him, glad to see that his partner was going to spend the night with them. Chris simply smiled back in return before the four of them went inside the house. They were all very tired from the party, so they decided to call it a night after a short while, Chris and Gomamon having the couch to sleep on.

A couple of hours later, after making sure that Renamon was fast asleep in the bed, Leomon got off the bed and quietly began to pack up for his departure. He just pretended to be sleeping and waited for her to fall asleep, which fortunately, didn't take long. He packed up some necessities and put them in a portable traveling bag for the long journey, which mainly included canned food and bottled water. When he was all done and ready, he glanced over at the sleeping Renamon and walked over to her. He sat on the edge of the bed and took a long look at her, his heart aching whenever he remembered how he was breaking his promise to her. He didn’t have a choice, though, even if that was a poor excuse. Before he left, he leaned his face down to hers and gave her a tender kiss on her forehead, as soft as he possibly could so he wouldn’t awake her. She twitched a bit with a soft moan in return, but hopefully didn’t wake up.

After the farewell kiss, he picked up his bag and donned a long traveling cape around himself. He sought to leave through the backdoor and passed by the living room to reach the kitchen.

“No, wait!” he got startled by a sudden cry and turned to see its source. “That pie is mine…” Gomamon mumbled in his sleep, Leomon sighing in relief as glanced Chris sleeping on the couch, holding a slightly snoring Gomamon between his arms and cuddling him. He noticed that the sheet had fallen off of them, so he went over to pick it up and cover it over them. He watched over them for a minute and ruffled his partner’s hair gently with a hand.

“Forgive me…” Leomon whispered and pulled his hand back. He lifted the bag over his shoulder and turned his back to what seemed to be his chance for the perfect life. Without looking back, he marched into the kitchen and went through the backdoor.

“Where are you going, Leomon?” Leomon froze in his track when he heard his partner’s voice speak just as he was about to leave the backyard. He turned around and to his surprise, saw Chris standing by the backdoor, a look of shock and confusion covering his face.

“Chris… I thought you were sleeping,” Leomon simply said.

“That’s not important. What’s with the bag? Going somewhere?” Leomon didn’t answer right away and kept silent for a bit. “You were leaving, weren’t you? You were gonna leave without telling us!” Chris confronted him.

“Yes,” Leomon coldly answered.

Wh-What? Why?! Where are you going?!”

“I’m sorry, I can’t say.”

“What the hell is that suppose to mean!? Hang on… you’ve been planning on this. That’s why you’ve been acting strange all day. Tell me what’s going on, Leomon!” Chris demanded.

“You don’t need to know. It’s something that concerns me only.”

“What are you talking about?! Aren’t we partners!? No secrets, no matter what, right? And Renamon! Don’t you care about what going to happen to her?” Leomon didn’t reply and stood there in complete silent, and that angered Chris enormously; he hated it when he wasn't given an answer to his questions, especially if it was due to ignoring, which seemed to be the case now. Chris was fuming at Leomon, the lionman staring with bitter eyes and Chris stared back at him, waiting for an answer. He approached Chris slowly until he was standing in front of him.

“I’m sorry. This is going to hurt me much more than it’s going to hurt you.”

Wha-? Leo-!?” before Chris could reply, Leomon delivered a quick hand chop to the side of Chris’ neck. It was just hard enough to knock him out cold without hurting him. Chris instantly fainted and slumped down, but Leomon got hold of him before he hit the ground. He really hated resolving to this, but he was compelled to. He didn’t want anyone to know about this, not until he was all gone from town. He didn't want to leave his partner lying unconscious out there, yet he didn't want to risk the chance of getting caught by carrying him back inside, as he wouldn't take long to wake up, and would definitely go to Renamon to tell her everything, and that would mean there was a chance she would tell the others and they would search, find and stop him before he got too far. Therefore, after thinking about it, and much as it hurt him to do it, there was only one way he could solve this.

After an indefinite period of time had passed…

Renamon found herself waking up during the night, quickly noticing that Leomon wasn’t by her side. She’d figure that maybe he went to the bathroom or was getting a glass of water, but when she went to search for him and didn’t find him anywhere around the house, anxiousness began to kick in.

“Where could he…?” she thought to herself as she entered the living room and was stunned to see that Chris wasn’t present either. She felt a bit relived and thought that maybe they went out for a walk around town like they usually do. However, she was still worried and couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong. She went to the kitchen to fetch her self a drink of water, when she then happened to notice that the backdoor was slightly open. She checked it out and to her shock, glimpsed the sight of Chris, tied up by ropes and held against a tree at her backyard, struggling to free himself from the ropes.

“Oh my goodness! Chris!?” she gasped and rushed over to help him. He was muffled by a piece of cloth and she immediately rid him from the ropes and pulled away the piece of cloth from his mouth.

“Are you hurt? Who did this to you?” she questioned him as soon as she untied him.

“No time for this! We gotta search for him and drag him back!” Chris suddenly exclaimed.

“What? Who?”

Leomon!”

Leomon?! What happened to him?!”

Leomon’s gone! He was planning to leave alone! I found him out and tried to stop him, but he knocked me out and tied me up to this tree!” Chris revealed to a stunned Renamon.

“What!? What’re you saying?! No… He can’t do that! I have to stop him!” Renamon said in despair and tried to go after him, but Chris stopped her.

“It’s no use, Renamon. It’s been hours ago. He’s far gone…” Chris jadedly said Renamon turned around to face him, her eyes filled with sorrowed tears.

“But… Why?” Renamon futility asked Chris. Chris didn’t have an answer for her and just strayed his eyes with a headshake. “Why did he leave us? Why did he leave me? He promised me… he promised me that he wouldn’t leave me alone… Oh, Chris… Why?!”

“I don’t know, Renamon… I just don’t know…” Chris replied wearily, lacking any better answer…
