Chapter 3 truth… some times the word can be misleading don’t you think? Doesn’t it mean to express the reality of something that actually happened? ... So how can you find out what truly happened from what the only survivor believes happened…? Isn’t it odd how one can twist things from the “truth” to something that is easier to comprehend? Then couldn’t we all be accused of….

HIDING IN THE LIGHT

heh long time no see… miss me?”

“What the hells goin on?!”

“What no warm welcome for your long lost friend?”

“Lost? Lost my ass! You’re dead G! I saw it happen, you even blamed me for it.”

“That’s right Casey; after all it was you’re fault that I died…”

“You got yourself killed, you ran in there recklessly and…”

“And where was my cover fire?”

“I was busy trying to stay alive holding off the three behind us! After you got gunned down I survived only because I dived out a two story window, else I’d be dead too!”

“No matter I’m coming back to repay you the favor.”

“Like how you’re dead?! D – E – D, DEAD!”

“Not as much as you think my dear friend, I’m quite alive. In fact you got one day to prepare for my arrival! See you soon…”

Casey Ray woke up in a cold sweat suddenly and woke me as well…

“Casey… Casey calm down you were just dreaming… you ok now?” I asked.

“Yeah… just a bad dream that’s all,” Casey Ray said forcing an obvious false smile.

It’s kinda hard to believe… she’s been here about eight months now and… we get along so well… I wasn’t sure in the beginning… the first few days after we met she seemed so cold toward me I wasn’t at all sure what possessed me to save some one so unthankful and tiring…. maybe I was just a bleeding heart…? no matter what I tried she always gave me that “what the hell do you want” look… it made since for her not to trust me but damn… but one day I had just brought her breakfast and had turned to leave when she said “Hey… um… thanks… I’m sorry I don’t really show my gratitude so well… but… thank you… for every thing… ya know?” and when I turned around in awe (this not only being the first time she ever really spoke praise of any sort  to me) she was just standing there by the window with the morning sun hitting her fur just right which just seemed to give off a golden aura around her and that smile……………… *sigh* I don’t think I’ll ever forget that smile, that alone made me forget all the pervious judgements I had about her. Casey thought with a bit of a smile himself upon recalling the moment.”

I started hanging around him more and more too, not that he ever complained he liked having me around I guess.  I really liked the guns, I don’t know why but something just drew me to them – though I’d never let him know it I went to the shooting gallery out back some times just to watch him practice and sometimes he’d let me finish off a box or two of ammo. One day he walked over smiling real big, something was up it was to obvious. He said “what the hell want to fire off a few for yourself?” I was kinda embarrassed, how could he tell? Had he seen me watching? “C’mon what do you say Rena?”

“Well…al-alright if you think I could do well I’ll try,” I said with a slight smile trying to act less interested.

“Ok, but this time try using this one,” he said holding out the Mag11.

I walked over and took the gun from him; it was lighter than it looked, suddenly I was nervous for some reason my palms were sweating, heart racing, and my hands started shaking, I was… scared? I took a stance he always called military, took aim and closed my eyes as I fired. When I opened them the target was still there… “I missed”

“Of course you did, you shaking Rena,” Casey said as he walked up behind me and put his hands over mine on the gun and took the same stance resting his head on my right shoulder and I was calm again. “You see you can’t be afraid when you’re shooting or else you won’t hit the mark,” he said as I took aim again, “you got to be sure of yourself” the gun went off but I didn’t feel it, all I felt was him pressed against me and the soft touch of his hands. He was so calm, so relaxed, no emotion at all.

“How did I do?”  I asked not able to look away from our hands.

He whispered into my ear, “You did good hun, just need to relax, loosen up and unwind.” and with that he turned and started to walk away. “Please when ever you feel like taking out some anger or just to shoot be my guest… oh and as far as I’m concerned you’ve just that mag-11 in your hand is yours now,”  he said.”

“Really you giving it to me?! I… um… uh… thank you,” I said astonished that he’d part with one of his favourites.

Heheh no need for thanks every marksman needs a first gun, and I’ll be damned if you’re any different.” He said with a friendly smile

“Where is your gun,” She asked.

“Right here, it’s a long barrel stainless steel colt 45 magnum heh heh custom made,” he said handing it to her. “I practically keep it with me just for the hell of it any more though…”

“Wow that’s heavy, how can you even use this thing?”

“Not many can” (reason why is mentioned in chapter 2) and with that he aimed it at one of the wooden targets pulled the trigger and blew a inch and a half radius out of a wooden dummies head.“Oh and just let me clean and repair it after your done… hmm… something else I’ll have to show you how to do later,” he said with a smirk that made her wonder just what was he talking about.

***

He’s on his way I can feel him drawing closer and closer by the moment I can fell him… what I got to do is obvious… I got to go back to my old tactics if I want this to end… no more running…, Casey Ray thought looking over at his long barrel colt 45 magnum resting on the table, He wants a welcoming party by god he’ll that’s just what I’ll give him. Picking up the gun and loading the cylinder he ralized he had forgot something important and his heart stopped “Rena….”

Rena… please forgive me I-I…know what I got to do… but that doesn’t make it any easier… *a tear roles down his cheek* please forgive me…

“Hey Renamon… we need to talk…” the look alone told me bad news was coming.

“Ok what’s up Case?”

“I need the week end to myself… so I rented you a room in a hotel just down the street…

So I’ll-“

“Hold up where the hell did this come from huh!? What happened to “I’m your guest?”

“Look just go I’ll explain why after the week end” he said starting to turn around.

“……… FINE… I’ll go… just don’t expect me to come back…” I said in as icy a voice as I could muster.

“… Very well… I suppose the choice is up to you,” Casey said in an emotionless tone still half turned.

I couldn’t stand it I didn’t even think about it the next thing I know Casey was picking himself up off the floor, the right side of his mouth was bleeding… and my hand was slightly bloody. I wanted to apologise but I couldn’t find the words so I ran as hard and as fast as I could.

“I got a feeling I’m gonna be put through hell today, but I think that one will have hurt the worst” Casey Ray said watching the car speed out of sight and whipping the blood off of his jaw.

Casey Ray got up and headed inside to make ready for the on coming show down…

Sitting at the top of the stair case in the central part of the main room Casey Ray awaited his guest’s arrival fully armed…

*door flies open and a tall sinister figure with short spiked crimson hair cut similar to Casey’s walks into the house*

“Been a long time…. Gene,” Casey said with extra disgust.

“Heheh that’s it? No hugs for your old friend? No snappy entrance comment? I’m really hurt. Awww don’t tell me you’ve lost your nerve after all these years,” said Gene with a sadistic and twisted smile.

“Yeah well your entrance sucked too, so I guess we are even huh? Said Casey Ray with a smirk. “Well you aren’t here to talk now are you so lets end this?”

“Alright, business first, you really never changed did you? a battle to the end, ok lets do this, one last time, let the final battle-“

“I’ll die of old age before you finish your speech!”

“Hmmm no you haven’t changed a bit still a glutton for-“

“Blah blah blah geeze you just can’t take a hint can you?! SHUT UP!” Casey yelled.

That must have done the job of pissing him off real good because he unsheathed his sword from behind his trench coat it was the exact same as Casey’s only solid black with a gold hand guard

“Just what the hell is that thing?!”

“Fool! Even you should know excellence when you see it!”

Great now loud mouth there even has a good weapon well…I’m at least taking his ass with me! Casey thought fumbling around with a grenade in his pocket.

As Casey tossed the grenade Gene sliced it in two spilling its explosive powder across the floor before the charge could go off. Casey jumped in the air and brought his blade crashing down on… nothing “What the… where’d he go” with a loud crack Casey hit the floor with a thud as the back of gene’s sword slammed into his stomach stealing the strength from his leg and the air from his lungs. “Son of a … how’d he do *winces* that?”

“I told you… there’s no way you can win… SPIRAL SLASH!”

Ghaa… no I can’t even hit him… how can I win if I can’t fight”

“Pay attention fool! BLACK BLAZE” even though Casey tried to hold his position against the flaming uppercut Casey Ray was thrown off his feet and his sword was sent sailing across the room.

“I can’t lose… not to him” Casey said now bleeding on his right arm.

“Giving up already are we? *sigh* you really are pathetic!” Gene chuckled evilly as he pressed the tip of his blade against Casey’s throat, “game over, old pal.”

“….Casey?!” when I walked into the doorway that was when I understood... he wasn’t trying to get rid of me… he was trying to protect me.

“Rena…. run…….. GO!” that was all he could say. But I was too scared to fight and to mad to run but I didn’t let it show.

Heheh looks like you get to live just a little longer pal. And so the butterfly touches into the spider’s web…” he said as he stalked over to me.

“Keep your hands off her you son (grabs his sword) of (Lines up a shot) a (throws his sword as hard as he can) BITCH!” Sadly his aim wasn’t as true as with injured arm, the sword loped off Gene’s left arm at the joint before he even realized it, and embeds its self in the far wall. I realized I was of no use to Casey in current condition and ran to get my Mag11.

“You’ll die slowly for that…” Gene promised glaring at Casey.

Heheh be glad, I was aiming for your back,” Casey Ray scoffed even though he hurt all over.

“What the hell! I removed the guys arm and he isn’t even fazed?!” thought Casey Ray but the thought was stolen from him a moment later.

“MOUNTIAN CRUSHER!” Gene charged in faster than Casey could react and slammed the hilt of his sword into Casey’s stomach sending him backwards into the wall behind him, then stabbed the sword threw Casey and into the wall)

“Now this ends…. Gene”

“What you don’t have your sword to throw at me any-,” Gene started

Casey Ray whipped out his colt 45 from a hidden pocket in his shirt and put it to Gene’s head “Game over old pal,” Casey said with his usual smug grin.

*BLAM*

As Gene fell limp to the floor as I re-entered the room with the mag11. Seeing Casey pinned to the wall like that scared me, if I didn’t do something quick he’d… no I wouldn’t let him die!

Ughhhhh this time stay dead Gene,” said Casey Ray as he pulled the sword out of him and the wall then fell to his knees and shortly his face

.

“Casey! Don’t you die… not now, not after all this,” I cried as I rushed over to him, tears began to well up in my eyes.

“Rena don’t you get your fur all soaked in blood for… I’m so sorry… I had to lie to you…” he said starting to breath hard, he knew that gene had punctured his lung and he had little time left in this world.

I kissed Casey one more time…

“Rena you’re a diamond in the sand…, a one in a million chance of finding… something so perfect in a sea of normal stones…,” whispered Casey Ray

And with that he… Disappeared

“That was two months ago” *Sigh* “well I may never see him again but he’s helped me in so many ways he won’t ever be forgotten…..” she said as yet another tear roles down Renamon’s cheek as she stares out into nothingness from the window
